Didn't take long. We got to the blind and immediately heard a gobble. I gave a couple yelps and he liked what he heard. As we were sitting down I yelped again to try and get a better feel for direction, but when he gobbled he was significantly closer. By the time I saw him he was running at us. He came in to about 15 yards and spooked when the 6 year old moved. George got his gun up and dusted him. The entire thing took less than three minutes to happen. I don't like blinds, but they sure are handy with the kids. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2026/04/full-27459-290934-kimg3766.jpg)

Good for him. Now for his next one find him a flinter smoothie. Yes, that's an excuse to buy another gun.

Good Job on the Thunder Chicken.
I agree with all, awesome job George and Big Sam!!! I don’t know what they call em down in Iowa, but up this way a “thunder chicken” is a ruffed grouse! :-) Happy trapping! ScottW

Congrats. Please show the younger boy not to hold a shotgun like that pointed at himself. Both guns are pointed safely out in front of their body. If guns don't stay pointed safe in this family, people lose their privilege to handle them, and get cuffed upside the head. I'll put either one of those boys up against anyone twice their age as far as safe handling of firearms.

I'm not real sure a fella that capsized his boat in 18" of near freezing water and then stood in the water for 12 hours instead of wading to shore should be handing out safety advice, LOL.

Sam, Please ask the boys to show me how to call Turkeys next time they see me.
They have time to get practiced up before the FTA. or the Iowa Convention in September. They'd love to put on a display for you. Just be prepared for them to annoy you after calling for an hour.

It was not knee deep water you moron where my boat flipped over.It was well over my head. There is no wading out of this area where it does get shallow enough because there is no bottom.Just keep being a arse like you always have been.

Whoa, Bruce, easy on the name calling there, buddy. I was just going by the news article that said that you pushed the boat to shallow water..... https://wgme.com/news/local/maine-d...nce-to-survive-hours-in-waste-deep-water

Bruce you weren't there, and you are flat out wrong. And if 160user says so, you can take it to the bank. He's seen those boys handle firearms on many occasions and saw me wallop one of them for acting irresponsibly at a gun show.
Thank you to everyone else that didn't have to bring a bogus observation into the conversation. My kids always appreciate what you all have to say. I also congratulated on the turkey.Look at the picture.Do you really call that safe gun handling even if the gun is just pointed in the general direction of one’s head?My father would have kicked my arse for doing that. One of my grandsons I had to break of the bad habit of putting his gun barrel resting on the top of his foot.Sorry but I take gun safety to heart.Again congrats on a nice turkey.

He has control of the firearm, it is unloaded and checked by him and myself, it is pointed away from his body. I'd call it safe. I believe anyone else that handles firearms would consider it safe. Resting a gun on your foot presents no danger so long as you control the dangerous end of the gun. Perhaps your grandson couldn't do that, but my son's keep them pointed safely.

Man, what a crappy move trashing a great post with that stuff Bruce. You should be ashamed.
Reminds me of a story, a kid was eating a big sack of candy, and some old curmudgeon came along and said "you need to stop eating that candy" The kid says "My grandpa lived to be 98 years old!" The guy asks "From eating all that candy?" The kid said "NO, from minding his own business!" I sprayed whiskey on my computer. I have to admit, Bruce's comment bugged me all day. What a terrible way to poop on a thread.
I have nothing clever to put here.

Sheesh, I came back to see if Mike was mad at me for giving him some friendly grief about calling a turkey a thunder chicken! lol I almost forgot about it after reading all this! Happy trapping! ScottW It kinda went downhill fast, didn't it? My apologies to folks. I didn't figure this post would go that way.
