Found the longest ringneck tail feather I've ever seen while cutting grass today. 35 and a half inches tip to tip.

I won a bar’s long tail feather contest-with one 10.5 inches shorter. Have you googled if that’s a record?

I suspect that feather came from a cross between a Reeves and Ringneck pheasant. The bars don't line up very well, like bars on ring necks tail feathers usually do. Reeves bars don't line up and look almost checkered. Those bars are in between a Ringneck and Reeves bars. Ringneck tail feathers usually only reach around 26". Reeves' tail feathers can be nearly 6'. Both species readily hybridize and are common. Both have been introduced in the US, though I have not heard of Reeves being introduced in Wisconsin.

I've had some really cool crosses between pheasant species, including a brick red pheasant rooster with a 5' tail. It had Ringneck, Reeves and probably Golden in it.

A friend of mine has some spectacular deep purple colored pheasants that are Ringneck and Mikado, plus some others.

Nice, at least you didn’t find a trap, barb wire, or anything other piece of metal sticking up…

That is neat. Nice find. At least you have some pheasants running around. Haven't seen or even herd a wild pheasant around here in over 20 years.

A hybrid wouldn't surprise me, as we aren't far from several game farms.
