My season here in WI opened today. Beautiful weather. Heard a half dozen toms on the roost. Had one tom hung up all day long. Every 15 to minutes he'd come within 100 yards, gobble and strut for 15 minutes, then walk off. Eventually a hen in my decoys finally lured him in, at 1 in the afternoon. 7 hours on one bird.
Nine and a half inch beard, 7/8 spurs (very pointy) and 26 pounds.

Nope. I do take the breasts off, but the rest of the carcass gets roasted, then the bones make soup.

And the heart and gizzard make good breakfast protein.

Yep, I'm pretty much a blind hunter nowadays. Open ag fields make it tough to move around.

I've done it, but I'm too much of a meat hunter at heart.

Glad to hear that you let nothing go to waste. That's the way it should be.
