![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2026/05/full-34891-293499-722.jpg) The one on the left. It's paddle was almost an inch and a half thick along the inside. Crazy the mass it had. Long, thick tines as well. I wish they would include the length of each tine in the score of moose antlers. The other two antlers will score better, in spite of their stubby tines. The other two were just not as thick over all, less mass.

One reason it's darker is it's been rubbing on burned trees from that huge fire we had a few years ago, found it in a burned area. Got character. Yukon ice not moving yet, but the ice on the Yukon has lifted enough for the tributaries ice to break up and go out. Learned a lot about antlers and scoring them from family trapperman.com. wealth of knowledge he has.

The top tines were especially massive on the taller, skinnier paddled antler, unusual: the top tines are most often small and thin, not unusual to see them rubbed off completely on the dominant side antler, bulls will be right or left antlered like we are right or left handed. Some are ambidextrous antlered.

How much a pound is antler and how many pounds you get? The Andreafski is out, full open?

That was a profitable trip, even after fuel cost, my third most profitable trip. Can't say how much per pound or where, insider secrets. It's nice to have a few honey holes left. Lots of guys looking for sheds nowadays. The antler buyers give guys who go hard at it extra per pound for extra effort expended, but don't care for prices to be aired out. We found 9 total.

C grades: older than two winters. B grades: two winters old. A grades from this winter. C grades, B grades, most A grades go for dog chews. Unusually large antlers that score well, especially sets, go for more to collectors. A grades maller than 6 pounds are craft grade. Sets get a little more a pound. Gnarly nontypicals also command more per pound. A small percentage go for the collector, craft, painting markets. The bulk go to the dog chew market.

Some customers want the vein channels sanded flat before she paints, but if left to her druthers, she leaves them and incorporates them into her paintings, she feels they add character to the painting. Hard to show in pictures.

Wow the amount of protein it takes in a season to grow that much antler and keep over 1,000 lbs. healthy is amazing to me. Sure are a lot of nutrients in the wild if you have the system for it.
Bryce Protein? Do your Wisconsin moose eat protein?

I cannot say the poundage of shed antlers, you'd have to ask Familytrapper. Went up the South Fork today, ice came in off the Yukon, South Fork started flowing backwards, water rose like crazy, when we came back down river, ice jam across the confluence of the north and south forks, but the water was so high, we drove through the woods on the side of the river to some lakes, paralleled the river a few miles till we were below the jam, then cut back through the woods to the timber, navigated through the flowing ice a few miles, made it back to town.
