My apple tree is loaded with blossoms but no bees here yet. Is that going to be a problem?

I don't know, but the same thing is going on here. Overall it has been cold. No honeybees, only bumbles

We've had a roller coaster ride of poor pollination weather on this side of the lake so I'm guessing youre in the same boat. You must be quite a ways north as I took bees out of apple pollination around 10 days ago. But the weather was so poor during bloom that pollination couldnt have been great. And the king bloom was frosted hard.

Do you normally have many bees show up? Around here apples compete on the front part of bloom with dandelions and on the end with autumn olive. Both of which are substantial draws for honey bees. Even in good flying weather that might also produce nectar, a lone apple tree here likely would see very little bee activity given the other food sources available.

I am in the NW corner of Wisconsin, and usually we have lots of honeybees and bumblebees when the apples are blooming. The only thing working the trees now are hummingbirds and I doubt they will do much. Hopefully the blossoms are still on next week, we are supposed to get up to upper 80s and maybe the bees will be out and about. I have a crabapple that is loaded with blooms too. Dandelions are just now starting to bloom.

We have had very few Carpenter bees, honey bees or brown wasp activity this year as of yet. Our weather I am sure has played a part in this lack of activity. A few late Spring frosts and single nites of freezing temperatures would impact many of them as well if they were exposed to those temps without any shelter.

I have honey bees in everything blooming. There are hives up the road a little over a mile. When the caragana starts to bloom they get thick.

Yep, bees are busy here in tree and in everything that has flowers now. I see a lot today at the ranch.

I’ve had bees for 53 years. Bees don’t always do what we think they should do. At my camp, I have an orchard, 23 apple trees. I also keep a bee yard there, five hives. Seldom will I see honey bees on my apple trees when they blossom. That’s because they want to work dandelions at that time, which is a far better nectar and pollen source. The fruit trees have lots of bumblebees and smaller native bees to pollinate them.

Depends - is it a self pollinating variety?
