Last week at 76 degrees and 37% humidity, I speed dipped a bunch of old and new 330s. They dried within an hour.
Today I speed dipped a bunch of 1 1/2 coilsprings. It was about 80 degrees but the humidity was 76%. I was sweating buckets but the traps dried within 30 minutes. This makes me think humidity isn’t a factor—as it’s a Coleman lantern fuel and oil based paint type product to begin with.
Air movement helps. Between the wind blowing thru my garage and the shop vac blower, the drying time was short. If there’s any odor, it should be completely gone by trapping season.

I've never worried much about the temp or humidity - just dipped traps whenever I have time. I use the lantern fuel and mix 6 to 1 and never had any issues.

I have a bucket that I add dip and gas over the years. I used to dip three or more times a year when I started adc beaver. Not even sure of the ratio anymore. Even if dry in 1hr, they always hang for about 12

I may have misspoken. I’m using Andy Stoe’s speed dip. Got it for $2 a can because 5 cans had been dented in the Trappers supply warehouse. 3 had leaked and dried on the label. As my buddy Jon says, that amount of dip should be ‘good for something’ so I bought the whole works.
After dipped the 330s, I poured the extra fluid into a plastic bucket with lid. The lid kept slipping off even with weight on the top. This time, I stirred it up and found some of the dip had settled out. Yesterday’s dip concentration was a whole lot thinner than the original mix of 4:1 lantern fluid to speed dip.
Still, the traps dyed black and dried fast. And other than coloring more snares, I’m ready for next fall.

That's the stuff I use also, Teacher. I learned a long time ago that the 4 to 1 mix ratio recommended on the can is too thick. If mixing up a brand new batch I'd recommend 6 to 1, and to use the lantern fuel instead of gasoline.

I used 91 octane nonoxy 5 or 6 to one, and hung everything up in my greenhouse with the doors wide open…they dried quickly enough. Water traps only.

It might be….when I took this nesting predator gig, I went to rust oleum for the body grips, and dye and wax for everything else. Wouldn’t put a skunky body grips directly into my only wax pot without boiling in logwood first…which is why I painted them. Any foothold should be dyed and waxed…IMO I have 15 dozen dukes 1 1/2s hanging up that were dyed 10 years ago, and need some preservative again. I’ll wax everything regardless of the presence of dip the next time I deem it necessary.

I think speed dip has some merits. I bought a small sized cage trap for ground squirrel a couple years ago and all of the traps this guy was selling were dipped. I don’t know how long it will last. A raccoon can clean the trap right up though. It’s rust prevention and not a hard coating.Also….it has an odor.
25 years ago I bought all of a fellow’s dukes, mink traps, and he’d dipped them every couple of years weather they needed it or not and it was layered on there very thick.
