Bruce, I tried lobster roll while in Maine over the past Christmas season. I was really anticipating something good...boy, was I disappointed. It was a highly respected joint south of Rockland, cant remember the name of it. Apparently, there are two very distinct styles of lobster roll...one is served cold with a mayonnaise based cream sauce and the other is served warm with traditional butter (popular farther down the coast). Needless to say, I choked the cold version down, not wanting to waste any of the $50 sandwich. If I try lobster roll again, it will be served warm with melted butter...hopefully it will be better ... Ive had them both ways. Not a fan of either.Id rather just have the Lobster with butter,,or better yet,,some Alaska King Crab lags with a nice big Steak.

The sandwiches look great to me. How much were they? Around here they are obscenely expensive. I would guess Maine prices are much better. The quality and freshness is probably better in Maine too.
I've been in a few of those little country stores, that have a restaurant and always had good food at them. I used to get some really good breaded and fried, pork tenderloin sandwiches at one.
Keith Speaking of food disappoinments; when I was buying fur in the midwest in the late 70's everyone was raving about "pork tenderloin". I decided I had to try it. I was at a little country resturant in Iowa and ordered one; biggest food disappointnent of my life. Bland, greasy piece of breaded, tastless something or other.

Fried pork tenderloins vary tremendously. I've had some as fair food, called Texas Tenderloins, that were bland like that and not good at all. I think it's in how they are spiced, breaded and cooked. I like them pretty spicy and they need a fair amount of salt on them. Pork is like chicken in that it needs good flavoring. Keith

Carolina BBQ might have been my bigest let down. Pulled pork with a bit of vinegar and mustard near as I could tell. Are you kidding me? I grew up on KC style BBQ and now I live amoung some of the best open pit masters in TX so I was not impressed at all.
I do love working on the Carolina coast but stick to seafood now

Keith I like to get country ham sandwiches at those little country stores in Kentucky. Those stores seem to always have good ham, meatloaf, Salisbury steak, pork tenderloins, liver and onions and sausage dinners. The sides are always decent too. Keith

What goes into a lobster roll besides lobster? From the photo it looks like chicken salad on a hard roll. The only lobster I've ever had was boiled or baked and then dipped in butter. I loved it. Just lobster

I've had lobster a few times, but have never thought it was as tasty as dungeness crab.I've often wondered if it tastes better closer to the source My Ol man...use to get lobsters off the boat in Boston ...and they We're packed in a box with ice and see weed.. Best Lobstahs EVAH.. You could taste the Sea in every bite.,.nice and salty. Those ones in the tank ...in the stores get washed out of taste My favorite place is up in Canada buying lobsters right off the boats.
