Yesterday, I was telling the wife that the passing of time is strange to think about. A lot of history wasn't really that long ago compared to our ages.

Sept 11, 2001 (terrorist attacks) was 25 years ago this year. My wife was born in 1970....25 years after World War 2 ended in 1945.

WW2 was in full rage in 1943. 26 years later Neil & Buzz walked on the moon. The year 2000 (which seems like last week to me) was 26 years ago.

In 1765, the USA was not yet a nation. In 1865, the Civil War ended. In 1965, I was one year old. Each 100 years apart.

1902 was more than a decade before US involvement in World War 1 and American culture and society was gradually progressing from it's early stages. The Wild West was still mostly wild...shootouts, saloons, outlaws, Indians, etc. This was only 62 years before I was born.....I'll be 62 this November.

It all seems a little odd to me.....

Time certainly is strange. Most people think about the past and future more than the present too!

Not much in the way of history on this side of the pond compared to the old country.
For example,my home town here was founded in around 1920
My home town in Ireland was founded in 870.

Swamp, I had a similar conversation with my wife a couple weeks ago. My MIL's man friend is 83. Born in 1943. 83 years before that was the BEGINNING of Abraham Lincoln's presidency. Pretty wild.

I made my debut 2 months after WW2 ended. My parents were born in 1904 and 1905, married in 1929 and had 3 kids during the Great Depression and then I came along 13 years later. The changes, both good and bad, that I have seen are mind boggling. Hard to even imagine what the next 100 years will bring.

Change is constant.

My Viking ancestors ransacked Boco's hometown in 875. Most of the loot was frost scraped pelts....maybe a few miscellaneous cute redheads.

Ok close dates. 1805ish the country was crossed on foot and 1905 by gasoline powered vehicles ( Lt. Eisenhower future president). I like those numbers......jk

Your Irish history is lacking.
Brian Boru and his irish forces conquered the Danes (vikings) and pushed the few survivors into the sea in 1014.Ending their shenanigans in Ireland decicively.
Brian was about 70 years old at the time and died in the battle of Clontarf..

I'm not sure what made this pop into my mind.....maybe it was because I was watching History Channel's WW2 documentary.

Our lives are short, but seem long when you subtract the years against history.

Ever heard of a radio that relays off satellites? Yep...even in the late 60s.

I think of the exact same scenarios multiple times. I teach. Had a student that graduated 10 years ago at the age of 18. Her Dad was 98! Her Grandparents (whom she didn't know) were born in the 1800's!

I was born in 1957, in PA. Had an outhouse until mid 60's. Kids just can't comprehend that now. I'm an old soul. I'm only 68, but sure have been through some changes.

Thinking this just today. Back when the missus and I were just getting going and struggling and well we're here now and just a different kind of struggle for us now. The more things change the more things are the same or is it the other way around, I really don't know these days. Maybe the grands will figure it out one day.

I don’t know how often it happens, too much thinking, but I graduated high school in ‘72 and this year I turned 72.

Phones connected to the wall, then pagers, the first big box car phones that had to stay in a car to a phone in my pocket with more powere and ability than my first PC. Dial up internet, at home to 5g in my pocket. AI and the acceleration of technology. From production to weapons and tracking an entire population.

Things are only going to progress faster and faster as the information flow does.

On a personal note years used to seem to take forever now they fly by. Intrest have drastically changed nad focuse is more outward. For example I get great joy from things I never paied attention to before. A good example is watching the kids in the 4 h program grow. and mature watching their success and growing understandings abilities. Like posting art from kids I dont know being proud of them and their ability.

my whole family was/is math people and computer scientists. This was "coding" when I was little, and now my old phone has WAY more computational power than the whole world back then. And I'm not old. I also work in IT academia and the progress is scary. Ironically my professions, which I used to make money with, have been made obsolete by computers and AI. Nothing good ahead for me anyway, the last few years have been a joyless blur, time flies. I think I've lived enough and should free up space for others... get run over by a train maybe smile

My dad (1910-1998) once wrote: From the old dishpan to electric dishwashers; From the old woodburning cook stove to microwave ovens; From handtools to robots, from scratch to computers, and from quiet roads to crowded streets and freeways; From bullets to nuclear missiles; From pristine to the polluted.

He was describing the changes he had seen in his life.

....and from my small corner of the world....(Hey Tatiana....nice knees)!

K-zoo I was born in 1955 in Pa. My dad 98 still uses the backhouse in nice weather. All of us that want to go back to our youth need to come to the Lord Jesus and to be born again in spirit. This old worldly body is going to death, but we need to be with the creator in the future after we leave this world. Only thing I know that gives me peace.
