My oldest brother once visited the massacre site and made friends with a Lakota Sioux park ranger. The park ranger had a great uncle who had been a participant and had heard all the firsthand accounts as a child. The ranger ended up taking my brother all around the battlefield after hours and telling him the stories he had heard growing up about the battle.

Pretty cool deal.

Fourth of July is coming up this weekend... just as it was back in 1876...

1776 to 1876 = 100 Years = Centennial.
1776 to 2026 = 250 Years = Semiquincentennial.

The Indian Wars (1866–1876)July 1866: Commissioned as a Lieutenant Colonel in the newly formed 7th U.S. Cavalry, heading to the Western frontier.1867: Court-martialed and suspended for a year for unauthorized absence (leaving his post to visit his wife). He was reinstated by General Philip Sheridan later that year.November 27, 1868: Led the 7th Cavalry in an attack against Chief Black Kettle's peaceful Cheyenne village at the Battle of the Washita.1873: Guarded survey parties on the Yellowstone Expedition, facing various skirmishes with the Lakota.1874: Led an expedition into the Black Hills of South Dakota. The expedition confirmed the presence of gold, igniting the Black Hills Gold Rush and violating the 1868 Treaty of Fort Laramie, accelerating tensions.June 22, 1876: Marched as part of a three-pronged offensive (including Generals Terry and Gibbon) into Montana Territory with orders to locate Native American encampments.June 25–26, 1876: Battle of the Little Bighorn. Underestimating the size of the combined Lakota and Cheyenne village led by Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse, Custer split his forces. His immediate battalion of five companies was surrounded and annihilated. Custer was killed alongside ~268 of his men.July 1876: News of "Custer's Last Stand" reached the American public just as the nation was celebrating its Centennial, causing widespread shock.

I am with the Indians. They saw the invasion of immigrants taking over their country the same as we see today. The good Lord gives and takes as his will desires.

Can't resist the irony in this statement. Many (most?) of the immigrants we want to send back south have on average more than 50% North American DNA that stretches back thousands of years before whites showed up on the continent.

Isn't it an eighth in bloodlines that allows you to claim tribal membership here for many tribes?

"Veni, vidi, vici." Then we made rules. Now everybody has to follow them.

I have no problem giving illegal aliens a free ride back to their homes.
