With this heat wave a lot of prisoners are getting very upset as the Iowa prisons are not air conditioned. They are getting very irritated and hard to handle. Most cells have a little box fan. But they are still unhappy.

Did any of them get sent to prison for singing to loud in Sunday School?

I grew up in a house without air conditioning, its not life threatening. I wonder how many on here work all day in a place that isnt air conditioned.

They should have pursued a different live style if the wanted better living conditions

Well!!!! AC isn't a necessity in life. I never had AC till a few years ago and I never lived in a prison.

It's prison, not a motel room. Do the crime spend your time in a hot prison.

I thought the idea behind prison was for it to be miserable enough that upon release no one wants to go back?

I work all day in a non climate controlled building. Open the overhead doors and hope for a breeze. Haha

We don't have AC and I don't want it. We open the windows at night ,let the cold air in and close it up when the sun comes up. House stays cool all day. 90 ouside and 69 inside right now. Nice thing about out here ,it cools down considerable at night. Got down to 49 last night

I work outside in the heat laying waterline, storm drain and sewer pipe. Even when running equipment I don’t turn the ac on. I enjoy the ac when I get home in the evening. If they want better conditions then stay out of prison!

Did have AC as a kid, till a bout age 15 then only downstairs my room was in attic 3rd floor, box fans in cross windows to pull air through

Grandparents no AC either ever, summer windows and fans also close windows at dawn trap in cool air pull shades it worked, though I do LOVE AC now

I worked several years running 100 ton presses to make powered metal parts that ran straight into the furnace. It was 115-125 degrees year round in the work area. Gold bond powder was your friend.

It is difficult to find guards to watch over these prisoners. The guards have to be in the heat too. To say nothing of feces and urine thrown at them as they walk by the cells.

Absolutely a life saver when I was working in the smelter. 7 years in construction before that and I thought I knew what hot was. I learned very quickly I had no idea what hot was untill I worked in the pot room. You cant comprehend it unless you experience it. Its a completely different kind of hot.

Yep, thats the main problem. People used to use corrections as a step into law enforcement. Now, no one wants to be a cop so stepping stones arent necessary. You have to want to be a corrections officer. And in 110 heat index with the smell of all those dudes and crap pay, good luck with the quality of employees youre gonna get.

Honestly, after hearing the prisoners gripe I would turn the heat on, and serve hot spicy chili for supper.

After 30 years in corrections all I'll say is the more miserable living conditions are the more unsafe it is for staff. Staff run the prisons but when Inmates riot for any reason it gets bad quick. I've worked in a prison that was built in the early 1800s and new facilities. The old ones sick for everyone. Freeze in the winter and shelter in the summer. I hope they find a reasonable solution. Im retired now. 😆

so they have nothing to do all day

they get to sit in the shade

they have a wash cloth and a little sink and a box fan

until it is well over 100 sounds to me like they won't be in any serios health concern

a lot of people work in this heat , most shops when the temps outside get over 90 they provide the crew Gatorade.

but to avoid heat related illness serve pickles at each meal and collect the pickle juice and everyone gets a cup of pickle juice to drink oh and 2 extra salt packets.

remember keep drinking water , it gets bad if you stop sweating.

I saw a couple homeless Friday night , it was about 7pm temp in the truck read 81they already had their winter coats on , when you get acclimated to 90s during the day , at 7pm when it is 81 you might want your jacket or you freeze when it is 65 on the overnight.

Three hots and a cot. Should be forced to wear pink clothing and live in tents as they do in Mariicopa county AZ.

My dad used to work in the Iowa prison system. For a time, he was in charge of the chain gang. He said that the convicts dreaded going back inside when it was hot and humid. When they were out in the heat, they would at least get the occasional breeze, and didn't have to deal with the stench of hundreds of sweating convicts.

I was told that stench is over at sand land too.
Feets and,,,butts.
Maybe it's not "that" hot in Iowa after all.

I think I need one of those attic fans.
New roof vs old slate.

My warehouse is a double level steal building. In the summer time when it gets hot and the employees (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) about the heat I throw on my coveralls and pull orders up stairs for the day.

Likely not, but with a 70-80% religious population in prison, I’ll bet a lot of them went to Sunday school.

there are reasons for being part of a religion in prison.
Some religions require different diet like halal
you assume they are Christian , a lot are Muslim others are Jews.
it also looks better for early release.
it may even get them out of their cell for a little longer.
