Shut down tent camping at a state park. Apparently, a wolf has been pawing at tents and entering tents looking for food. They plan to use noise makers to discourage the wolf. I'm sure that'll work. I did not catch where the park is located, heard it on local radio news.

What a joke .
When I stayed there 40 years back it was red fox that were the problem at the campground,,, Always stealing more fish than they could eat,, few rock salt loads would cure him

People want to camp, but the wildlife around there can go fly a kite while they’re there?
Someone probably fed the dang thing and basically signed its death warrant.

I heard that it was camping on Isle Royal in MI. Are there other sites being closes in addition?

"An annual survey of the wolf population on Isle Royale estimated there were 37 wolves on the island this past winter — the highest number since the late 1970s. But the island’s moose population — a major food source for wolves — has dropped sharply."

Gee, I wonder why?

Noise makers are a nonlethal humane way of chasing starving wolves away from potental food sources so they can go off and starve to death where people can't see them.

Noise markers don't produce negative consequences for the wolf. Temporary inconvenience, until it learns nothing really happens to harm it. When hunger takes over, it will be back for the readily available meal/s and maybe it won't be just a backpack. 37 wolves on 207 square miles of island with a declining population of natural food sources; who would of ever thought there would be wolf/human conflicts. But noise makers and new food storage requirements with a temporary campground closure and cleanup will solve the problem. confused crazy

Gee, I wonder why?

One thing we've learned after over 70 years of studying the island is the more we know, the more we realize that we don't know. Look at the dynamics of the population levels and the other factors on the "isolated" ecosystem, not just wolf & moose. There's many other factors that effect the population levels. When an intestinal parasite nearly wiped the wolves off the island, so did the moose levels crash, but beaver came back. The moose/wolf population levels are conflicting if you use the "lots of wolves = no moose" theory.
There's things so small we can't see, or other seemingly minor things that we refuse/ignore that effect the ecosystem way more than we know. It's just not that simple.....lol
The studies by the real biologists that haven't picked a pro/anti wolf side have noted this from YNP to BNP. There's just not enough money to complete detailed studies on this. The money goes to anti/pro wolf because it's cool. And if the study doesn't fit the funders agenda, it gets cut. Not too many can afford to just tell the truth nowadays.......just like our news media.......lol
We all know that nature likes extremes, not harmony and balance. People hate change, but it's the only thing that's inevitable.

I have never seen a starving wolf.
I have seen plenty of hungry wolves.
Wolves have no trouble killing anything on the land big and small including each other even the weak in their own pack become just another package of protein.I seen where a pack of wolves caught and killed a very large blackbear in the middle of an old burn,I picked up the skull and it was bigger than any bear I had ever shot and I killed a couple spring bear in the 400lb range.
I have often seen bear hair in wolf scat.

Their predator/prey studies are a mute point anymore after having to transplant several more wolves a half dozen years ago...nothing scientic about it.
