Three times during the last year one of my two garage doors has opened on it's own when the power went out. (We have a Generac standby generator we installed a year and a half ago which has worked as it should when we have these outages.) When this happens, neither the control on the wall nor the remote will close that door until the opener is unplugged and plugged back in. It would not be good if this were to happen when we were gone. Any garage door guys here that can tell me what I need to do to fix this?

Look up the make and model
And then go to trouble shooting on that site about your opener
Unless you have the manual that came with the opener, in that case just turn the pages to the trouble shooting section

Not sure. Sounds like a factory default. Not sure how much a problem it would be for you but you could run the power through a light switch and when you left you could switch the power off to it.

Till then. If you're gone for a long time like a vacation, unplug the door and use the manual lock until you get back.

Dealt with a similar issue on the commercial door on my short this spring. I ended up killing the breaker for about a week as I didn’t need to use that door. It’s been good ever since fingers crossed

Thanks for your ideas guys. I'll see what the manufacturer says. Both door openers are the same make and model installed at the same time. So hopefully I can isolate what is haywire in that problem opener and it's an easy fix.

We had that same trouble when we had a new opener put in. On the second trip out for the door guy he figured it out but had no reason for it to do what it was doing. When the house was running on the generator something about the photo cell on the dawn to dusk outside light was triggering the door opener. He ended up moving the outside light to a different circuit and that fixed it. Never had trouble with the old garage door opener. Sounds crazy but that was what was doing it. We also have a light in the garage that will come on when you come in from the utility door. Stays on for 3 minutes when shuts off. If the power even blinks off for a second or two that light will come on and stay on. We just unplug then plug it back in and it works like it should. Good luck to you !!!
