Same. I’ve known some dumb dudes that were in the military.

The majority of military personnel vote conservative/Republican and continue to vote that way after they leave the service.

That right there makes them wiser/smarter than many citizens who haven't served (or even worked for a living).

Eh...wot?

Well, a ride through Columbus, GA or most any army town does make one question, lol. Probably bring back the old whiskey for ballots scheme.

But I stand by my principle of putting it on the line in some meaningful way to have a say on how things are run. You know like them vets did in Athens, TN.

Not sure military service would qualify anyone to vote ... Only thing military service taught was to follow orders without question or suffer consequences.

Social security and Medicare ... Government social programs??? I paid in my whole work life, the government sayes I have to participate, even if it costs me more in expenses and taxes.

Only requirement to vote should be ... Verifiable adult US citizenship!

I have felt for any years that military or public service should be a requirement to vote. They would be inclined to keep up with the issues and actually go vote, not just bellyache about everything.

I think property ownership as a requirement is not a good step. It would not take long for a few thousand billionaires or trillionaires to buy up the bulk of all property in the USA and that could include foreigners as well.
The wealthy control the economy and politics enough without enhancing their ability to further limit voices in a nation of 340 million.

According to the Google machine military vets are only 6% of the U.S. adult population. Shouldn't take long to count the votes.

Obviously, there are a lot of non vets that have enough skin in the game to vote.

I didn't serve but I do pay taxes. Does that qualify? I'd gladly give my right to vote up if I could never pay taxes again.

People who rent ARE the ones paying the taxes. Also the mortgage and something for the landlords pocket.

My brother and his wife rent. He's retired Navy (24 years) Is 62 years old and still works.
Raised 3 successful children and his wife is a school teacher.
Thank God he votes!

If he is paying out all that,,why dont he buy his own place?I take it you are a renter also.
