My apples should be ready to pick. It was 23 for the low last night. A good frost seems to sweeten them up.

I've had a hard time finding apples that taste sweet at any grocery store lately. Maybe that explains it.

We picked our early apples 2 weeks ago. Our late apples should be ready next week or so. We are supposed to get our first frost tonight (28 degrees). That seems to help sweeten up the late apples.

23 degrees is a pretty hard frost to let apples go through. Is that the first frost you had?

I had apples 4 weeks ago here in Eastern WI that were really sweet. Made lots of apple sauce. The varieties were Honey Crisp, Ruby Macs and Cortlands. Around here the apple size was much smaller but the numbers were up a lot. I noticed here that my tomatoes were much sweeter this year as well. Might be something to do with the hotter and drier growing year we had here.

We had had 31 degrees twice before this, but for a short period of time. It wasn't enough to kill the tomato plants. They had predicted 28, but missed that by six degrees. It was 28 last night and they predicted 37.

My apples have good size. I watered them a couple times and it really helped. My honey crisp are huge, not a lot of them but they are big. The trees are six years old.

Coons got all my apples three months ago. They must have been really good tasting apples, cause the coons thought they were worth dying for
