Hey folks! I’m lacking in protein and need to consume at least 100 grams a day. Any recommendations on protein bars would be appreciated. I’m not particular as to sweet or savory. Tasty and tolerable are preferred. Thanks for any help you can offer. Have a great day!

Careful with them, they often have more carbs than protein.

A straight protein powder may be a better option.

I've tried quite a few "protein" bars, and they all taste a bit off to me, not sure I would recommend any of them.

Built Bar Puffs are pretty good taste wise.... but be warned they are very chewy. They are now available at places like Walmart in small packages or some drug stores in singles... so you can try just a few before ordering a bunch to see if you like them.

That’s what I use. I get a brand called Naked Whey. I get 2 pounds at a time. It’s 100% pure protein powder, no additives at all.

The stuff has gotten expensive lately though. Apparently there is a worldwide shortage on protein powder due to that new weight loss drug everybody is using and the doctors prescribing it recommending protein powder so that their patients don’t lose as much muscle mass with the fat. I read that it is somewhat time-consuming and difficult to process.

Went up and cost about 30% since the last time I bought it.

Eh...wot?

100 grams is only about three ounces. Eat some meat.

This… I lift pretty heavy x4 week. I don’t want all of the extra stuff associated with a bar. I run 3 shakes a day for the protein. The liquid intake also has me eating less at each meal versus overeating and helps with snacking.

Its not 1:1. Three ounces of cooked beef is around 25 grams of protein. So he'd have to eat 12 oz. of (cooked) beef. Still not a huge amount.

Bars and powders are a more convenient option, no prep required.

Thank you one and all! Great ideas and suggestions. I eat 2 eggs every day for breakfast. I had a steak the night after my blood draw. I eat a decent amount of meat but it’s been an appetite issue for me for a couple months. It’s coming back so I’ll concentrate on eating more meat plus a couple other things mentioned. Thanks again!!

meat , meat , meat , meat , meat

watch the carb , calories and the cost of those bars per gram of protien.

meat is basically the perfect protein estimated at 7-9 grams of carbs per ounce and 50-90 calories per ounce

on the cheap side those bars are about 1.50 for 20 grams of protein and 200 calories and 17grams of carbs.
the sky is basically the limit on the high side of protein bar snacks.

I am seeing pork loin for around 2 dollars a pound that would mean an ounce of meat is costing you 12 1/2 cents an ounce or 1 1/2 cents per gram of protein.

you could eat 2 smaller 6-7 ounce pork chops a day and have all your needed protein for around a about a 1.57 or the price of the cheap bar. Add some vegetable to that and you have a complete diet.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I lift weights everyday and try to get 180 grams/day. I get mine mostly from real food but I agree on the powders. I make a big shake every morning and have a premade one after lifting. The Equate (Walmart) brand is my favorite but there is indeed a shortage of whey protein. I have not been able to find it for months and am having to buy the more expensive powders.

As for bars, I also liked the Equate bars but they have also been gone for months. Now I just check the label and buy what is available. The Pure Protein bars at Walmart are not too expensive (it's relative) and taste pretty good.

Barebell protein bars. Most all are really good and I have eaten them all. Lower on carbs than most. Good balance bars for me. Salty peanut caramel-snickers. Chococaramel-Twix without the cookie. Caramel cashew is good. Lemon and key lime are good.

If using protein powders, use whey isolate. Your joints hurt less with isolate. Bits more expensive but worth less pain.
