My CCW instructor repeated a hundred times......concealed is concealed is concealed.

… I think you can both conceal or open carry here without any kind of permit or anything

By the time you dig out the peashooter concealed in your shorts quick draw McGraw will already be fanning the hammer on his big iron sixgun and ventilating your carcass.

I did have to draw my weapon on somebody once, and that was open carry.

Maybe open vs concealed isn't as big of an issue up here, because so many people do open carry it's pretty commonplace.

My goodness. Is there any way we can warn them of the dangers?

There are plenty of videos showing ther are plenty of tough open cary guys geting their guns stolen and some being shot with them. It clearly happens

Have an armed garde in the bank or school everyone know who and where he stands. Just the first thing to take out on the check list.

That's what I was thinking too. If you are going to shoot up a place, the first guy to take out is the one with the exposed firearm. He's the biggest threat.

I think for some guys who open carry it's a status symbol. Just like some guys who own pit bulls. They know these dogs have a bad reputation, so they think it's cool to own one.

If I lived in Alaska, I'd open carry because that seems to be pretty normal up there. But, in the lower 48, in most states it's not.

It's not uncommon down here.

It isn't uncommon in rural WI either.

don't see it much in big cities but not at all uncommon to be in the farm store and a few people are carrying.

I guess to answer the question a simple thumb break holster like the 1791 brand for the clock 19 , I have one I carry it , there are better holsters for keeping the gun close to the body but it is fairly close. it is definitely not a quick draw.
it is way faster than running back to the truck, it is reasonably comfortable no bad pressure points that I have noticed.
if I want secure and fast I will run the Safariland ALS the one I use grabs the light so any glock that you mount a Streamlight HL1 on it holds
the trade off is it sticks out alot on your side and if working it bangs into stuff as you are in and out of tractors or moving around a bunch.

there is definitely better leather out there
does it keep the gun secure riding a quad or in a canoe , yes it does
I have a friend who lost his late fathers 1911 riding quad with a not great holster , he never found it , that bugs him

I am not sure I would recommend open carry any where you are also concerned the police will be your bigger issue. MKE is one of those places. they have a once a month court for all the guns they take off people , you have to go petition for your gun back from that court. they had a policy of if they see it on your person or at a traffic stop they will take it and when they "secure it for officer safety" they make you go to that court to get it back , it is a way of fleecing you for court costs.

Back to the question of what are you carrying?

Yes there are a few cases of people having their guns taken off of them open carrying it is probably a 1 in many thousand the one I can think of off the top of my head hung around state street in Madison and was a fairly vocal guy , he got ambushed by 2 guys it was a total setup one guy following , one guy around the corner they knew where he walked and they put him in a pinch. guy turning the corner ran into him hard, guy behind grabbed the gun.
would a better holster have helped it may have but it is always really hard to beat an ambush like that.

in WI the bigger thing is make sure you stay out of school zones as a non ccl holder. there is no exception for you in the law to keep the gun loaded and uncased and it is 1000 feet from the furthest edge of the school property
