Have a big roll of 1/16" 7x7 cable. Have camlocks and homemade locks. This stuff atout enough for bobcats and raccoons? Have read mixed thoughts on it.

Fine for bobcats, for raccoons not so much unless you neck snare them and can either use kill springs or get them to tangle up

Swivel everything, occasionally 1/16” 1x19 will kink enough times to lose a coyote….every extension has a swivel on it.

I have home made swivels, is there better ones to use? Heavy duty 6/0 or 9/0 barrel swivels or trap swivels.

1/16 7x7 is good for cats and fox and under ice beaver. Set them lethal for cats and fox(kill stick); No need for swivels or extra jewellery that way. For under ice beaver leave a 3/4 inch tail on the tie off loop to tuck the lock under. 7x7 when set for under ice beaver fires easily when placing the pole or from swimming beaver circling the pole, that why you need the tag end to tuck the lock.

I built a dozen and a half 5/64 x 1x19, 60” long, today Double ferrule loop on the end,and I will use an extension that has the swivel on one end and I quick link to that. These are my preferred coyote snare.

I make my snares just big enough to make the loop,I tie off with wire which is also the support.Same set up for all my snares.Tie off support is number 9 for wolf and the others double 14 ga.I like a 7-8 inch loop for cats and fox a 10 inch loop for under ice beaver and a 14-16 inch loop for wolf.I use 3 32 1x19 for wolf and 1 16 1x19 or 7x7 for fox cats and under ice beaver.I use a toothed cam lock for the wolf snares and either an adams lock or cam lock for the beaver cat or fox snares.

I’ve taken instructions from a couple experienced snaremen including Newt Sterling and Ron Jones. Both suggest 1x19 5/64 fully loaded. At the suggestion of Dale Billingsley, I’ve a few 1/16 7x7 and a lot of 5/64 7x7. Most of what I use today are 5/64 7x7 and I’ve taken coon, beaver, fox and coyotes.
This will be my first year using the 1/16. I think they’ll work fine for beaver and fox. Not so sure about coon and coyotes. It will be an experiment.

The first snare I checked this morning was a 7x7 1/16, that had a 30-inch extension of 7x7 3/32 connected to an earth anchor. The coon was neck caught. The cables were separated with a #9 crane swivel. The 1/16 cable was kinked but not frayed.

Yes. The coon was alive. Most of my coon are alive unless they tangle up.
Yesterday a coon tangled around an overhanging branch. Caught just behind the ears. DOA. It was in a 5/64 7x7. Loaded, with Newts Masterlock. Had an in-line swivel.
