He just started checking an hour or so ago.

He has many miles to cover so hopefully l get more pics. Im Surprised he had service to send them.
He needs 8.5 average over the 12 checks to make his goal of 100.

He sets closer to the ground than most of you guys.

He doesn't have any problems with mice unless it snows..then the mice damage starts

He only checked a 3 close sets today. He had to go pull traps on his new private permission because they had paying elk hunters coming.

After he pulled them he worked on setting his second marten line..so they'll be more catch pics tomorrow.

Maybe we should all chip in to get a Jerry a new phone! That is some marten country. What do those marten do once winter and heavy snow comes? We get plenty of snow here in Alaska but maybe not as much as the high country of the Rockies!

I tried to get him a new phone. He don't want one. He daid he doesn't know how to use any other kind and he isn't willing to learn.lol

They're prime.for the most part..a few are slatey but none are blue.

Who do you think you are to come on a thread where I am showing trappers what hard work and determintation can do for you in the trappers world..and attempt to insult Jerry Pingley by insinuating that he can only Do what he does trapping because I work to pay for our living while he's trapping?

You'd do good not to comment on financial situations you know nothing about.

For your information..not that t's your business..Jerry Pingley not only pays all our household bills he keeps myself and himself in vehichles..he has a 2021 Nissan. Frontier ..I have a 2019 chevy silverado..PAID FOR OUTRIGHT by one MR. JERRY PINGLEY..by that I mean both vehicles are paid off..mostly from him working his butt off trapping.

I work 2 days a week for. Mr Stepp and I work 2 hrs a day for Mrs. Curry..the money I make is for ME. It is my spending money.

Jerry does not take or receive any of that money.


I don't have to work because Jerry makes more than enough through trapping....digging ramps..recycling and his job to more than take care of our household needs and my needs but I won't allow him to give me spending money.

Iwant it...I wanna buy it..I go to work and earn the money for those extra things I want.


Jerry doesnt..drink..smoke...go to sports games..or blow money gambling or on any other BS.

THATS how he is able to go trapping out of state.

He has the discipline not to blow money...alot better than me.

I earn my money because I don't feel right spending money he's made by working his butt off for things that are soley for me.

He would and has always taken care of me and my children...and he didn't have to...and still he's been able to trap.


Jerry Pingley would never live off of a woman and he'd quit trapping if he had to in order to pay the bills but he doesn't have to because he works his butt off and saves.

Any of yall could do it if you'd just set our mind to it.


So quite frankly the best thing you can do is put me on block.

That way I don't have to waste my time telling you to go get screwed again.

Jerry Pingley is by far the hardest working man I've ever known and my daddy worked himself to death..so I don't say that lightly.

Only 5 today. He said he isn't get near the action he'd hoped for today he thinks it's because of warm Temps and lots of food..chipmunks and mice..and he doesn't think they're having to hunt hard.

That's 31 marten in 4 checks.

As of today he has 104 marten sets out..over 90 miles.

I know.. I know ..that's alot of driving but that's what ya gotta do to catch numbers.
You can't be afraid to put mes on your vehicle.

Well see what tomorrow brings his goal.is still reachable.

Good weather is forecasted for next week so we'll see what happens.

There's a brand new shiny #5 Bridger right at the top of the crossover..where it should be..that don't belong to jerry.lol

He hid his marten set in the bushes and even though he could have set the pond and cut the guy off he didn't.

He said he hopes the guy catches it..maybe it's the first beaver he's ever trapped.

Jerry wished.him.luck and went on to the next location.

As it should be, other trappers should leave each other's traps alone and go on their merry way. Good luck to Jerry and his mystery trapper.

That area looks very familiar to me. I spent many summer vacations in the Snowy Range area. Tom Krause used to trap there. Maybe still does.

Yup, it takes a lot of sets over a lot of miles to catch a lot of fur. 25 sets over 25-30 miles will not catch one enough fur to pay but 100 sets over 100 miles goes a long ways towards making a big catch.

Over the years we’ve heard of phenomenal catches like over 2500 coon, over 100’s of beaver, over 1000 muskrats, over 1000 red fox and almost 1000 coyotes. None of these catches were made without tremendous mental and physical attitude and 100’s of traps over 100’s of miles, and then some!

Toms slowed down, has had some health issues. His mind is still good and always a pleasure to talk to.

Since your educating and entertaining us, what is Jerry paying for gas? When our marten season opens on Nov. 1 in interior Alaska, we will be paying something over 4 bucks a gallon. Most venders, like Safeway and Kroger, are over 5!

Martentrapper..he's paying 3.65 gallon but he had a nephew in colorado that works for a fuel company that sells bulk fuel. He had a100 gallon fuel tank set at the ranch.

Its 3.99 at the service stations.

This is the first year he's had a tank and got fuel cheaper.

We usually see marten in camp and out in the forest during elk season, they are curious little animals. Had more than one occasion where one jumped on our wall tent midday to say hi it seems.

He needs to put down some wolves if they wander over the state line !!!!!

Elk hunting, we had a marten get in the meat cache. It was fun watching him.

He never traps marten in the snowys because season doesn't
open till Dec 1st In There for marten. He leaves Wyoming by Nov 1st..usually unless he helps Cody with the cattle
For a day or two In. Return for staying at the bunkhouse while he traps.


There's no snow where he is..so no tracks.

His ultimate goal is to catch a wolf. He saw sign a few years ago.

He's had some bear issues this year on some of the sets.

Wytex..i bet you were surprised to see a marten come in like that to your tent.

Over the years there have been many posts about Jerry from Cathryn. He could be on a TV show as well as the guy from AK. He's pure adventure, a fine interesting man from the sounds of it, definitely one of a kind. I envy him. I wonder how many of us old farts think, I wish I could have done that!

I'll set some in November near roads,and if it looks good will set up the bush lines with the snowmachine later.

He said it's the first time he's trapped that area and there hasn't been by now.

They're calling for possibly some precipitation and colder Saturday and sunday..he could honestly use the cold Temps and about 3 inches of snow..to get them.noving and hunting hard.

I didn't know there are spotted skunks at that elevation in Wyoming. Crazy thing is that I have also caught them in marten traps in Washington at relatively high elevation.

Jerry doing a little fishing with his nephew and his kids last Saturday ..in a private pond.. while they were checking traps.

The kids..2 girls and 1 boy love it when uncle Jerry comes to trap.

Last year he had a marten..that they were with him when he caught them.. tanned for each of them.








Memories are what life's all about..ya gotta live and do while you can..so when youre no longer able to do those things anymore..your good memories will see you through.

One thing about Jerrys doing what he's doing..some.of yall may think he's not too bright but I can tell you one thing about him..he will NEVER look back on his life and say.." oh how I WISH I had done that"

Yeah , the Dec 1 opening is a bit late for mountain trapping in the Snowies.
Spouse and I trap mainly bobcats and coyotes on a private ranch Northeast of town here. We do get a badger every once in a while and coons. We have to watch out for mt lions also as we can not trap them and have them around.

Weather will change coming up. Sounds like more snow over on west side of Snowies and cold for us with scattered snow and rain. Next week will be cold for sure they are saying.

We've had marten experiences almost every year archery elk hunting, they are quite curious it seems and not very afraid.

Best of luck to his trapping and hope he gets that wolf ! Be even better if it had a collar from Colorado !!!!

Its amazing how those marten have darker faces than the pale grey faces of others back east, and north in the western hemisphere.

Such rich warm brown/yellow bodies , and the necklace bling !

Apparently he gets them skinned or frozen soon after catching. I remember how quickly their bellys would turn green if their stomach was full. I ls was a foothold guy all of my serious marten trapping years. Conibear kills quickly so stomach contents remain inside.

Yall please bear with me. The last couple.of days have been hectic..

Boss..my little dog...had to have emergency surgery yesterday morning and I havent been online.

He may not meet the goal of 100 in 12 checks I set for him but he's doing his best.

His usually catch for the whole time hes out there is 50 to 70 so i may have set th bar a little too high but if the weather gets em.moving..

it's still doable before he comes home.

He has 110 marten sets out and there's a front getting ready to move through with lower Temps and aome snow and that could really get them.moving.

(This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) stay out there until Nov 1st if weather permits.

The second marten pic looks gorgeous. Looks like total bib bling, with the orange extending all down his belly. Please have close up pics taken of them all when they're back in the shed, and also skinned out, especially this one !

Seriously. I want him. Soft and tanned .

He said to let you know they will nest inside each other. He can get 120 in a 100 pound feed sack.they take up alot less space than boxes.

He said if anyone tries them.to.make sure that ya tie a wire through the handle if you dont it will top up.

He also holds the bait in by running a wire out the cap whole and anchoring it .

He puts his triggers on top facing In.

That way by the time they get to the bait alot more of the animal is committed to the trap and his chances of a successful catch are..in his opinion higher.

He has alot of suitcase catches and he's convinced that some of them are spooked and jump backwards when encountering the triggers and that because they're so far committed to the trap before they encounter the trigger that he catches some he'd otherwise miss if his triggers pointed outward.
