I think an important consideration is How You Are Bedding Your Trap in the grass? Are you digging out a trap bed? If so...try pounding one in with your heavy hammer....then covering with cut up grass clippings. This tactic works well for me. I cut the sod out for a trap bed, and bed the trap in the dirt. After sifting dirt over it, I would sprinkle grass clippings and let them cover most of the dirt patch and out onto the surrounding grass. I'll try pounding this year, if the ground is soft enough. Right now it'd be like pounding on asphalt.

I for one. Love putting in sets in the sod. Carry a small shears with me and cut up grass for covering. Sure is alot simpler than putting in dirt I think. Can you describe your process a little more? Are you pounding in trap beds? Only using clipped grass for covering? Thanks.

k snow, I think you are using the right covering. Just don't put too much or you will clog trap when fired. I use a screen pan cover. With that, a heavy rain or light snow, wouldn't sage/depress haylage or clippings over pan. Using screen with haylage with give a natural, blended look which doesn't need re-made after an all-day rain. Power company mows a tract of land near me in July or August. I rake all I need, then at home I mow these cutting finer. Here's blind set at bottom of incline using haylage (5 Fox in 7 days)

Screen on the pan helps keep a thin layer of grass nice and flat on the pan. Pound the dirt in against the jaws like '' power bedding''
