Going really out of the box here , what are some strange , odd foods you eat ?

I get this stuff at an Asian store here.
[Linked Image]
Some seaweed snacks , also known as Nori.

These are actually very tasty , most people I let try them like them.
[Linked Image]
Shrimp flavored crackers.

What ya got ? There has to be at least one person on Tman who eats Vegmite. I wanna try it , there is a UK food store about 10 miles from here. I'm quite sure they have it.

Not strange to me but many people think it is. I like tongue, heart and pigs feet. We had chicken feet when I was a kid and I liked them but I can't seem to cook them like mom did. We also kept the unlayed eggs when we butchered chickens and they were good but when I try it, not so much.

Do chicken hearts count? Everyone eats livers and gizzards and so do I but I like hearts way better.

I like sushi/sashimi. I spent years telling people they were nuts to eat the stuff. Now, it's one of the few things I will go out of my way to find. Love the stuff! blush

boiled fish

maybe a little out of the norm but definitely not weird

Enjoy vegemite. New Zealand also has a version.

I have to watch my salt intake, however.

At deer camp when sausage is fried for breakfast, we save the grease and cook breaded slices of deer heart. I prefer it to sausage

Back in the 60s when I was a kid, my Grandmother would boil a big kettle of deer bones. No other meat was added. She would remove the bones, would add squares of rolled out dough, and some potatoes and carrots. She didn’t waste anything. I remember it being pretty good.

When I was a kid the cricks used to be loaded with suckers every spring. My buddies grandfather would love ground sucker patties and fries sucker eggs. They were pretty tasty

When I was a youngster I ate plenty of Perch and bullhead eggs.

Ate a kangaroo tail in the Outback. Tail had hide and hair and was thrown in a small fire. Hair burned away. Tour guide shredded some meat with a fork. Thought is was greasy but OK.

Have toured Cambodia, Viet Nam, and China. Always try to eat local food assuming it is refrigerated, free from flies, and cooked properly. If it swims or crawls in the ocean there is a good chance I have tried it.

Usingers had it I can’t bring up their website, theirs had a little too much gelatin for me, I prefer a more shredded meat than chunk with less gelatin.

The kangaroo tail sounds about like porky pine.
Had it cooks on an open fire quils hide and all, then the char was shaved of. Good flavor but greasy and chewy.

I remember eating fried bass eggs when I was a kid
We used to regularly eat ceviche

Most exotic thing I have eaten is stuffed zebra loin a couple years ago

Of course I eat sushi, sashimi and have eaten tuna fresh out of the ocean

On my list of to try is parisa (form of steak tartare)

The T-man feed at the WTA has always had some interesting food items. We will wait to see what new ones may appear this year. I remember the one year there was some bobcat sausage on the menu.

I have eaten a LOT of different animals. Only one I would have to literally be starving to eat is coyote. Some surprised me on goodness. Horse and gar come to mind first.

Had horse in Europe. Giraffe amongst mutiple other game meats in S. Africa. Both were good.

The Cape Buffalo sausage was the only thing I had that was rough. Not real sure how well the intestines were washed before they were stuffed???

Hard to find anymore. The one butcher shop sa6s they do some at Christmas but that's it. Young people won't eat it

When I was younger,,any time we butchered a hog,,we hung it by hind feet and I would cut it to let it bleed out.An old Polish woman that my father knew would come out to the farm and put one of them old galvanized wash tubs under the hog.She would catch all the blood,AND then all the guts,,heart,, kidneys,, liver, everything. We would cut the head off and that went in the tub also.Later she would give us a little brick of head cheese and some blood sausage. The intestines she would rinse out and use to stuff the sausages into. She let nothing go to waste.I liked the head cheese.Any time we would put a whole hog on the spit(usually a smaller younger one) when it was done,, we would crack open the skull and put the brains on crackers.Tastes like smoked fish.Theres not much I havent eaten at one time or another. smile

Here in eastern WI we have a huge German heritage background and head cheese, blood sausage, pork hocks etc. etc. are commonly sold in many meat markets. We have butchered some sheep the last decade or so but as of yet we have not tried Hagus. Not much appetite for that as of yet.

Our sportsmen's club had a wild game feed where I tried timber wolf and mountain lion. Didn't like either one. The timber wolf was especially nasty. Had some fish head soup my mother in law made once. I could live without that too. About the only thing I've heard anyone mention that I really like is pickled pigs feet. I don't like tongue, heart, or liver from any animal. They all taste like blood to me.
