What kind of squirrels were those? Thanks K-zoo. What were the squirrels? $45 top and 8.89 avg.
From what I understand they were brought in from out of state, Albuquerque Squirrels. Never heard of them. There was also some really nice western coyotes there. Sure beats our mostly ugly coyotes from around here. Several craft buyers attended also, along with our usual fur buyers.

This sale has a number of "Crafters" buying specialty items or unique color fase. So some of the averages will be up some. That's good for the seller and for the buyer wanting that fur. But, well handled prime fur did bring better prices. Fur that was not prime or not handled like it should have, reflected those prices.

Notice the price of deer hides. Gruenwald will give you gloves. Will they take them with no tails? I cut the tails off and sold them. One of my hides has no holes. Shot him in the brisket and was able to cut the hole out. The other one only has one hole thru the spine. Both are great hides.

As long as the hide is in reasonable shape they don't seem to care much.

Why the high price on deer hides? A few years back, you could not give them away in NY. A friend and his brother had a 75-year family business that went belly up, no market for deer or cow hides. . I've heard that the market is starting to stabilize on hides after covid. There's a fairly decent sized player in the hide market in these parts that I stay in contact with. Not that many years ago he was paying $15-20 per hide. In grand scheme of things probably a drop in the bucket but he normally moved in the neighborhood of 35k hides yearly directly shipped overseas. But he lost basically every thing during covid when they got stuck in port and then the chinese were shut down and had no way to process them. Perhaps the general fur market supply chain will start to piece itself back together over there at some point. Unfortunately I suspect it'll still be the bottom end generic goods
