Preface; I am only saying this to Believers, I can not make any judgement on others. If you wouldn't sit down and pound down four or five Cokes, but you try to justify pounding down four or five beers, you had better be looking at your motives. You can have a cola and I can have a beer….what ever makes you comfortable…. I have the best talks about Grace,,,, in a bar. Grace is what we are given. God uses Everyone that is Called for His purpose…. Jesus hung with sinners… Violated the Sabbath….. A Rebel With a Cause……..

^^^ I drink way more beer than soda, soda has zero redeeming qualities imo. I'm just attempting to make a point that believers need to be truthful with themselves.
I had a friend who was trying to justify pounding down five or six beers in quick order. He said it was no different than drinking a Coke. I asked him when the last time he sat down and drank six Cokes in 30 minutes.....never.
Fast forward 10 years. Jeff jumped off a railroad bridge in Montana after tying his climbing rope around his neck.
You can't treat just the symptom.

When Jesus turned water into wine, the master of the banquet pulled the bridegroom aside and said “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”. The good stuff got drank first while everyone was stone cold sober, then once everyone was tipsy and didn't care, they brought out the swill, but Jesus made the best wine for last. Obviously Jesus knew everyone was tipsy and having a good time, and yet, when they wine ran out, he made even more for everyone to drink. So it would seem that at least every once in a while, intoxication isn't sinful, since the Son of God himself served alcohol to already-intoxicated people.

I quit about 4 years ago after 30 years, the last 20 being pretty heavy. When I couldn’t afford it wasn’t too bad, but when I got into the line trade it got worse. Booze was a big part of the trade. The councillor I was video chatting with said I’ll need something to do with my time. I always called myself a trapper but never really trapped so I told him “I’m going to trap”. Now, all I do is work and trap, 24/7. The OT is through the roof because I’m stealing extra call shifts and am able to drop what I’m doing and help out other guys when not on call and everyone knows it, so quite often I’m the first they call. I miss some parts of it, but the benefits out weigh the good times. In the end, you have to quit for yourself and nobody else, it took about 3 months to realize this. I still go to parties and it gets entertaining in a different way. It’s easy to tune someone up when you’re sober if you have to……lol I am lucky that my youngest kid is 20 right now, going to university and living at home for free as long as she votes conservative while under this roof. But I sure missed most of their younger years. It is what it is, it’s in the past and I just deal with it. Another thing is that I realized that there’s no real problems in life, just little minor stuff that I deal with now. Everything seemed blown out of proportion years ago. My tolerance for incompetence and laziness is much lower now. Too many government employees and people in general with a crappy attitude and I let them know, managers included. I’m lucky that I’ve got close tie to a couple VPs cuz crap always flows down hill….lol The true Martens has come out in me, and like my uncles…..we can be a bunch of pricks……but people sometimes hate to hear the truth.
Wind Blew, crap flew, out came the line crew

I’m not saying don’t drink alcohol, I’m saying beware of what alcohol can do to you and others.
Everyone knows that, everyone. They don't need preached to about it. Who is preaching on this thread?

I wonder if the occasional snort of cocaine is sinful? Just like liquor is an intoxicating too. Just in a different way. My parents went to the World Fair and Exposition (Seattle 1962) where mom tried some "Peruvian tea" at one of the stands. Man did it pep her up! She walked around all day without getting tired. But later when she tried to buy more through the mail found out that the feds had shut them down because it contained coca leaf. She sure was disappointed!

Let's start right off by agreeing that wine when talked about in either the New or Old Testament was alcoholic. Grapes are harvested in late summer or early fall and juice is made, the juice is then fermented, it was the only method of preservation available to them. At the last supper, during the spring of the year wine was consumed; not grape juice.
Furthermore, when Jesus turned water into wine (his first miracle), it is obvious by the conversation that was taking place between Jesus, Mary and the head servant that the beverage being consumed was alcoholic and capable of intoxication. It was not watered-down wine.
That being said, the Bible condemns drunkenness.
I find it curious that some fundamentalist preachers will insist that the wine consumed in the bible was just grape juice or greatly diluted wine. Guys who preach like this, to support a bias, lose credibility in everything else they preach. I agree. I don't think it was just grape juice either. The bible condemns drunkenness. Proverbs says, a drunkard will never enter the kingdom of heaven. To me, a drunkard is a person who lives to drink; can't go without it. Having a couple beers occasionally doesn't make you a drunk.
More and more when I go anywhere I find myself keeping track of where the nearest rest room is.

It couldn't have been grape juice, unless it was super fresh, like less than a week old. It's not like they had refrigerators back then. Any grape juice left for more than a few days would start to ferment. And since grapes only got harvested in the fall, it would have all been wine. The last supper was in the springtime (it was during passover), and the cup that they passed around would have been wine, since any grape juice would have been several months old at that point, so Jesus himself absolutely drank alcoholic wine.

My wife condemns drunkenness too. Been my experience as well. Mad if I came home drunk, mad if I didn’t come home. Lawyer explained giving up alcohol was cheaper than giving up a wife.
It’s a lazy man who can’t find his wife a second job !

It doesn't say Jesus drank from the cup. It says he passed it to the disciples. Did he? I don't know for sure. It seems like a logical conclusion, but you can not say he absolutely did, because the Bible doesn't say that.
