I use my bow in rifle season. Have for about 20 years. Haven't shot a deer with a rifle for20ish years. Can't remember.

I am not reading the full nine pages so far. But most g&f agency have a goal of 20/25% harvest of the estimated state deer population. If your state has a total harvest of about 25% of the total deer population and you have a crossbow season - you are probably right where you need to be. In my state, even though we have a five month crossbow season, vertical bow hunters still kill more and rifle hunters kill a WHOLE lot more

Msny states the combined archery kill, crossbows included, has overtaken the gun total.

How do you get that close? Any scent control?

This isn’t even close to true. In Michigan more deer are killed in the first week of gun season than the six weeks of archery leading up to gun.

If all your shooting is a few minutes just before season that's pretty irresponsible. Maybe my standards are just a little higher than most. if I dont need to shoot at a 5 spot at 30 yards to keep from busting nocks im not hunting.

Could also be since I have been killing deer with bow since I was 14 and used to shoot my bow almost daily for hours its not got all that much appeal any more. Its not any more special shooting a deer with a bow than our 7mm08. Its just another a dead deer & meat in the freezer .

I may feel different if I only shot one or two a year. But for years I was tagging out at 5. 2 bow 2 firearms and one black power season. Then bag limits went up . Some years I was shooting 14.

I used to also get sentimental about things like guns. Today its just a tool and can be replaced.

Deer=groceries+ time with the kids outdoors.

After running out of deer by April this year im seting a min goal for the boys of 10 each. Should not be a problem if they dont let so many walk this year. If they get tired of it before there atmre 20 in the freezer old dad will. my some tags for the first time in several years to round it out.

3 states are over 50%, many are close to getting there and tending that direction.

Any deer killed are ones that my friends and family won't hit on the highway, and won't mess up 1/2 my coyote sets. I'm ok with any means of take.

I don't have a problem with them.i didn't start bow hunting until 5 years ago at almost being 60 I figured I would get a crossbow instead of a compound not knowing how many years before my body would allow me to use it.figured I would spend the money once instead of twice.

I'm lazy!! My deer hunting amounts to dragging a lawn chair 5 feet off of the side of my driveway and sitting there with a gun, smoking ciggs and waiting for one to walk by. Usually works pretty good!

Sounds like a decent plan. I have an employee who knows an older lady West Virginia who shoots her deer out her kitchen window.
