Got copy of T&PC at a trapping seminar with an article about Trapperman, and Charlie Dobbins, got on a 'Puter and joined up. However long ago that was?

I tried getting on here in 2006.... But ..between the dial up....and no puter skills ,I was lost.

I didn't even know trapping forums existed. Like Savell I was just googling "trapping" and found the site. It was 2004. I was a fan of Charlie Dobbins prior to finding this place, so I was rather in awe when I realized it was his son who ran the place... and then he banned me. LMAO.

I didnt know what google was. Wife brought home a computer and got it hooked up. I typed in trapper or trapping where you put the web address and Tman popped up. Found the chat room. Folks like the Tomato Goddess started teaching me stuff about how to use it. Still type with one finger but that chat room got me typing lots faster.

Late one night I had a trapping question of some sort. Everything I looked up lead me here, so I joined up.

First one that I remember (96-97??) talking with Paul was one called SpAV outdoors, It was out of
Florida, There was some cool late night conversations on it. That one went away then there was a few more.

Anyway I followed it to what it has become.

Was trying to figure out the best way to get the grease off new traps. Looked it up and the best answer was on Trapperman. Didn't know what an online forum even was but I realized there was some great info, so I started lurking. Then when I saw the post about the kid's Christmas drawing contest I asked my mom if I could join. I thought for sure she'd say no but she was all for it

Was new to trapping somewhere around 2004 or so. Bored at work, not working so not getting paid, and found it. Been a good ride so far.

Trapped coons for years and then tried my luck on coyotes. Had a problem with most of my traps getting sprung every night and no animal. Googled it and found this site and learned about deer being attracted to urine along with trap placement. Used more travel corridors and quit using urine and started catching some yotes. Site has been very helpful.

Can't remember (nothing new there) but been here 19 years... never been banned, yet. Seen more than a few come and go, some forever but most came back... definitely miss a few that passed in those 19 years. Ton of knowledge has crossed this site.

Googling trapping stuff in Mr. McCrackens 1st hr computer class my sophomore year of high school.

Got fired from McDonald’s one winter and went on ei. Wanted to spend more time outside in the bush and googled if trapping was still legal.

Found the Manitoba trapping guide and this site. Started my research and buying traps, and the following winter I was trapping!

Was sitting in the Managers office watching Midwest Whitetail on YouTube. They were getting slammed upstairs by an after supper rush and were ringing the bell for me to go up and help.
I refused to be interrupted and got a call from the boss who was at home to go up and help. I got fired the next day.

One day while browsing how to make fox lure led me to Asa Lenon. And Asa led me to Trapperman. A few years later I joined after looking in from the outside.
He was a great man and legend. I was lucky to talk to him and learn from his knowledge

Might have been Tom Florin I was buying most everything from him about that time , he was on my way home from work and had been at the D10 rondy which is the same time D10 trappers ed happens they give you a break in class for lunch and to go hit the vendors.

then I hung out with the D9 crew a bit , all those cool cats over there.

Used to go on a trapping site some time ago. I guy named Benny who was on there mentioned Trapperman. So, I checked it out and really have enjoyed it ever since.

Really can't remember, but it's been awhile...I self banned myself for a couple years when the NTA fights were raging, Gappa was still here then and everyone mad at the NTA was being criticized..was at Steves site for awhile till he was about the only one left... talking to himself, lol

Was also member of another trapping forum on graybeard outdoors site with similar membership. Newt, Redfox,, boggy, some of those guys were on the other forum and someone suggested I try this one.
Met a lot of cool folks on here over the years:
I liked it right away because of the Dobbins connection. I have a signed copy of Charlie’s land trapping book I got from him in mid to late 80s at a national convention. He was a great teacher for me and I re-read that book before each coyote season here.

Found the site when my oldest were just babies (my oldest is now 26 years old). Searching how to try to trap some critter. BTW the advice worked. Have been hooked since!

A friend of mine told me about it. He said "you've got to read about this Savell guy from Texas" Been hooked every since.🤣

I had a I came to learn from here.. that I had a sow coon teaching her kits to hunt... using my chickens... my wife says do something... I've always hunted.. but anyhow I googled how to trap a racoon. Found T-man. Got alot of dumb questions answered. Met alot of good folks due to here. And I've been a pest ever since... lol.. have never banned. But have been close to being strangled a time or 3... it's been a really cool ride.

And I truly know now how big of pain that I was back in those days. Thanks for putting up with me.

Found the site a long time ago while on dial up. Trying to kill time while downloading some Hank Jr or David Allan Coe on napster or maybe limewire. Waiting for the girls to type back on AIM lol, man things have gotten sophisticated since then!

This place has evolved. Back at the start it was mostly a trapping info site; now its mostly a meeting place for trappers, a trappers coffee shop sort of thing. Not complaining; just pointing out it has changed some. I like trapperman.com. It has been a good thing.

Heard other trappers talking about it, and was at a trapperman.com feed before I was a member.

Was reading the trapping forum on HuntingPA and someone mentioned it.

Came over to see what the hulalabaloo was about. That was probably right around 99 or 2000.

The chat nights were fun. Spent way to many hours on there.

I loved the guys that would come in and try to tell Paul how to trap beavers, not knowing it was him incognito.

Got made a moderator in there. Was fun banning that freak that typed in all Chinese characters.

For awhile if you banned anyone they could log right back in.

Then it changed they would be kicked for an hour.

I think Wolfer and Paul were the only ones who kick a person permanently.

Kicked that one teenage kid for being a smart alec one night.
He went on the forum and made a post about it.

Wolfer told him he needed to be more respectful if he didn't want it to be for good.

No idea I do know I picked up a lot of tips that I wish i'd known a long time ago lots of helpful folks on here That was before facegooglers and wizards of Ozz came on here

I picked up a hitchhiker about 2010 and drove him to Oklahoma city. His pimp caught up and I pick pocketed him. All I got was a lint covered fortune cookie. Inside was this web address. The rest is history.
