Getting older, spending more time looking like a bush than a tree these days. Anyone else?

I generally prefer the ground. I like being able to move if a stalk presents itself.

Both but mostly up a tree the last few years. Still hunting is more exciting but sitting is easier. In school I couldnt stay still, so sitting on the ground I always want to know whats over the next rise and so I end up still-hunting not sitting lol

Was always a tree bow and rifle. But have a couple new Barronett blinds and have fallen in love with ground hunting. Last year passed a nice 130" 8 point making a scrape at 5 yards, so cool. I shot a 147" 12 point a couple weeks ago at 12 yards on the ground. These new see through blinds you can get away with a little more movement. Treestands are all ladders these days.

Box blind, pop up, and tree stands. I like the 360 degree view from the tree stands and the sights and sounds of being out in nature the best. On the other hand, I hate using the fall protection system harness and line. It can get pretty cold when the weather turns too. With the box blind I am out of the wind and with a propane heater I can hunt in any weather and be comfortable. The pop up isn't as comfortable as the box blind but is warmer than the tree stands and good even in the rain. Still hunting is my favorite way to spend time in the woods but I don't do it much anymore.

My tree stand hunting is limited to ML, pistol, or rifle. My crossbow is just a little heavier than a boat anchor so I don't take it up into a tree stand.

Started on the ground, did a short stint in a tree but went back to the ground, but instead of sitting literally on the ground or rock , and almost unable to get up without looking like a wounded bear, started collecting free resin chairs, located in appropriate areas...and I could get up and move easily to wherever....
I'd say most of the deer taken was from still hunting or the ground.

Got a couple of these... pretty satisfied so far.
Those bottom legs fold down to put you only a couple of inches off the ground if you choose to, which I usually do.

It’s boots on the ground here. Slink quietly through the brush and timber. We shoot a few after spotting deer on the beaches also. My joke is “never made it to tree line”. Tree line being where the beach ends and the woods begin, lol.

Both, but these days mostly out of a tree. Only ladder stands though. I used to mostly still hunt, property ownership changes kind of forced me into sitting. I am considering building a heated blind for late season cold weather hunting.

I shot probably equal amounts from tree and ground but i do find i have better luck from the ground on new area but many things are to be considered what are you using for a weapon to start if hunting
with a bow i would suggest a ground blind or get up in a tree because lots of movement unless you practiced from a sitting position
with a crossbow or shotgun know your limits keep your movements to a minimum
with a rifle pay attention
movement is your worst enemy when deer hunting get comfy and really dont move other than your head deer are more spooked/cautious to movement than anything else you also dont need great camo deer see in shades of black and white so a pair of blue jeans will show up grey or black to them

I started doing the saddle thing last year.

Really getting my system dialed in this year.

It’s a game changer for me in a big way.

saddle for me. places i hunt arent really setup for hunting from the ground unless its an evening hunter over an ag field. in the woods around here, you might as well leave your gun at home if you're on the ground

Ground mostly

But I do have a couple ladder and tripod stands that I use occasionally, depending on the wind

If hunting for the ground, my camo is black now so I blend in to the inside of the blind. Deer see a lot less movement.

This post got me thinking and it was cold today so I decided to still hunt. Got within 15 yards of a bedded doe and fawn but along a fenceline we don't have permission to cross so i didn't shoot incase she jumped before expiring. Later I got within 6 paces of a bedded fawn before she got up, she didnt know I was there but just walked off so slowly. Thanks Coop, for getting me out of the tree and back on solid ground, it was a fun hunt for a cold snowy morning.

Tower stands, ladder stands, climbers, and lock on’s. Need to be elevated to see, plus it’s cheaper. I like my arrows sticking in the ground after passing through.

Bowhunting . . . Summit Viper climber. Just a little slower and more careful than ever. Always up in a tree if possible.

Gun deer . . . find a natural high spot and make it a deer stand. This one has a ladder concealed by camo and a seat up on top. I like the elevated view in the river bottoms, yet the versatility to get off the stand and move quickly. Now at 73 I'm finding this more of a challenge than years before.

Trees most of my life, untill I started taking the kids then ground blind was the ticket. hid movment had room for solid rest Caldwell field pod and room for pack with food heater coloring books and such to keep them warm comfortable and entertained during the long boring sit tell there was action.

I like walking/stalking but save that for lat black powder season to avoid geting shot.

each situation is different its good to have options. I like the visibility of a tree and the simplicity of just opening a bi pod and seting on the ground. Some places you need to be 20" in a tree others 6 or 7 feet may be the best way to get a max 30 yard shot in thick stuff. On the ground there you can't see 10' any higher you loose distance you can see.

Now im 45 so not older but
I have not been in a tree all year, and I dont think i will hunt out of my loggy climbing stand for the first time since I got it at 14 or 15. I may not hunt out of a tree at all but if I do it will be a ladder stand or summit

With MS limb weakness, tingling, balance and other issues that come and go at random. Getting in a tree is not the best choice for me these days.

sad I have most of gun season off and was thinking about deer hunting myself for the first time in many years not just sitting with the kids. But now It may be sitting with the kids or even just waiting in the truck if they are hunting from a tree.

When I did bow hunting, tree. Gun hunting, ground. But I know a guy that goes up 40 feet in a tree, overlooking the creek for gun season. I think his part crazy and cold blooded; at least when I get cold I can get up and move around to get warm lol

We use a wide door double bull blind and wear all black-out when in the blind i dont use the shoot thru camo screen i just use the one left to right long window and close-up all other peeking windows
we hunt brushy farmland and brush in the blind with bundles of golden rod its amazing how close deer will get and never detect you in the past years we have tried all different types of blinds but nothing seems to compare to the double bull
my only advise make sure to stake or tie down the blind to the ground and when you leave the blind always prop a post stick to support the center cuz when the snow comes it will make the top become heavy and collapse
and when using the blind for turkey it allows kids to get away with movement and the turkeys can be just feet away great for youth season birds for that very reason

Too old and fat to climb trees. Never hunted in a tree, even when younger. Always on terra firma.

I ain’t getting in no tree. I realize there are advantages but I’m already clumsy and nervous and it wouldn’t be worth it for me. I only have five deer to my name and they were all taken from the ground..

When deer are crossing a bull rush or high grass dry swamp you wont see them from ground.

I used to hunt 100% from an elevated stand. Then my shoulder went south on me and cant draw my bow. Switched to a crossbow and the ground. I hunt out of one of the turkey hunting strutter chairs - low to the ground. The biggest deer I ever killed, I was set up for my target buck and had been there two hours before I expected to see him, expecting a 30 yard shot. About 20 min before I thought he might show, wind switched and was hitting my back. I picked my chair up and moved about 60 yards and was set in about 45 seconds. Deer came in and I killed him with wind in my face. I have thought many times, had I been in my summit climber, no way in heck would i have change locations 30 min before dark. I would have just stuck with it and never seen the deer. Biggest problem with hunting on the ground with a crossbow, is passing deer you dont want to kill and them milling around you and spooking everything in the woods.

Hunted from a tree a couple of times, hunt exclusively on the ground in a nest. Lots safer I think, plenty of down trees for frame, and Cedars for brushing it.
