Was looking at a nice tree ...about 7 1/2 feet tall...already cut...at the local feed store

On the edge of the big city limits...

Looked at the price tag...169.99

I said ...yah ....Go (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) your hand...

What's trees going around your way ????

Don't you own an axe or a saw? Our Christmas trees are cheap out on the public ground.

Can't beat the consistency of an artificial tree. No mess, no fuss. Of course we haven't put ours up for years but we've got it along some beautiful decorations. We don't have kids and to me Christmas is for kids more than anything else. When we first got together 30 years ago my wife wanted a real tree. What a friggin mess, never again and we've had an artificial since.

Geez, for these prices you can go to a nursery and buy a live planted tree!

I have nothing clever to put here.

There was an old guy on his late eighties, within half a mile of me, who sold beautiful, potted blue spruces for $45.00 each that were around 5' tall and potted Scotch and Norway pines for $35.00, that were a little over 6'. I thought about buying a bunch to resell one year. He disappeared. He probably died or was moved to a nursing home.

Fake trees are not Christmas trees. That's like saying that fake fur is the same as real fur.
Fake trees are not a part of this conversation.

I cut mine on either our land or USFS. Years past I would once and a while poach one; glad to have that off my conscience.

My wife and I have been married for just short of 50 years. The only major fights we ever had were over picking out Christmas trees. About 40 years ago we went artificial and have had wedded bliss ever since.

We own a Christmas tree farm, if you are buying a real tree you already know its about more than the tree. You don't create lifetime memories by going to Walmart to pick out the artificial tree you will be using for the next 10 years, or at least until the Chinese lights burn out and you have to buy another so you can throw that other one in the landfill. Prices vary by variety and size of the tree. We also are an American family working for a living, so yea I don't feel bad when I put a price tag on a tree I just spent 6-8 years growing.

you can cut Christmas trees in the Yukon
on vacant public land outside of municipal boundaries .No permit is needed for personal use, but you must not cut trees on private land, First Nation Settlement Land, or in power line corridors or urban parks.ours are free if we want

If people are willing to pay it, then by all means, go for it! I've had a real tree all my life and always will... that said, commercial real trees are about at the limit of what I will pay for one. I won't pay $90 for a six foot tree. I will pay $60, which I will likely be able to get one for this year. Any further than that, and scraggly pines or cedars around here will become my trees. There will be a point where people just won't pay it anymore. I sold an artificial tree yesterday to 40's-something couple who said they'd always had a real tree but just couldn't afford it anymore... and they sure didn't look like lower class folks. But of course, it's all about supply and demand. You obviously have the demand if you can sell trees for your price. Once you don't, you'll either have to lower your prices or go out of business. As long as you have the market, take advantage of it!

Happy Christmas y’all. Doesn’t matter if your tree is real or fake! It’s about the birth of our Savior!

And the Bible doesn’t say anything about bringing a tree into your house!

Hope y’all have a merry Christmas.

When I had my property I'd cut a free one, but that's all it was worth, lol
Hard to find a GOOD wild tree....Friend of mine would cut 2 and tie them together good sides out.
I've cut red cedars when the kids were young, the price was right....
Nowadays I do like my grandma did, snap off a branch from the spruce tree in the yard, stick it in a flower pot, tie a red ribbon on it and done....!!! grin

We pay $250+ for a 6' balled and burlapped tree, the grow time and land constraints are similar. You deserve to be well compensated for your trees, especially if you offer the full experience.

Dont have a dog in this fight, but a hundred dollars buys a fair amount of fishing or hunting gear. Im not spending my money on a throw-away tree.

When my wife Girlfriend at the time. Moved into her first apparent she wanted an x mas tree. I went to one of the stores close by and the best looking fake tree they had only had a display model Left. It was very close to x mas so they were on sale I also got a good discount on top of the sale since it was the display model. That was 27 years ago and is the same tree we use now. I think back then it was listed around $130 and I bought it for around $65.

nope I don't have the pine smell. I don't have the needles falling off or have to get rid of it when finished for the year. It has been much more cost effective

Trees are a pagan ritual. Always had a real tree here. Tradition. I don't consider myself a pagan though I am sure Mark June is not the only one who does. I like Christmas. Wonderful family get together and I enjoy the grandkids. May not even have a tree this year.

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

I'd be good with skipping the tree, but the wife, kids and granddaughter will have none of that!

Don't waste them! Best trapline visual there is. Put the used Christmas tree a little ways out in a field and every passing predator will check it out. Get several and use them as a corral in the woods and snare the openings with bait in the corral center.

Hard to find a GOOD wild tree....Friend of mine would cut 2 and tie them together good sides out.
I've cut red cedars when the kids were young, the price was right....
Nowadays I do like my grandma did, snap off a branch from the spruce tree in the yard, stick it in a flower pot, tie a red ribbon on it and done....!!! grin

Long ago there was an old man that had a patch of cedars. He saw a guy dragging one out to his truck. The old man went down there to see who he was. In the process when the guy got the first tree to the truck he didn't think it was very good so he went back and got another one so his wife could have a choice of the two. When the owner got there and seen the guy had two, he told him he didn't mind if he took one, but why be a hog and get two. The guy told him it was for Charity, the owner said in that case it was all right go ahead and take two.
The guy who took the trees wife was named Charity. He was bragging down at a club how he had fooled the old guy.

Fake trees are not a part of this conversation.

I cut mine on either our land or USFS. Years past I would once and a while poach one; glad to have that off my conscience.

You're right a fake tree is not the same as a real tree. THEY ARE BETTER. I grew up with a fake tree. When I got my own place I wanted a real tree. I got one and that was enough. Back to fake for me. No having to water the tree, no mess from needles falling all over and no allergens brought into the house. And to top it all off over the lifespan of the fake tree it is much cheaper than real trees.

There is nothing wrong with real trees if that's what you want but there is also nothing wrong with a fake tree.

I remember as a kid cutting your own was a big red cedar off a fencerow somewhere. But that was back when tinsel artificals were an option, lol.

If you are a real cheapskate, just wait until about 8PM on Christmas Eve, drive to the local Christmas tree stand and pick-out one of the leftovers. No one will be there, and they'll have one less that they will need to haul off later.
