I used wood heat most of my life. I am almost 69 years old. It can be a bit hard to regulate if the stove is inside the area you are heating. I am living in a small cabin right now. Sometimes it gets pretty warm. Yes opening windows and cracking doors is a necessity once in a while. But when the wind is blowing and its zero or almost 40 below outside, I smile and enjoy wood heat so much !!!

Have heated with wood since my first rental house i instslled a wood stove . In the kitchen and ran the pipe out a window. First house had a free standing fireplace and lp i replaced the fire place wood stove after a year. And saved 1000 over the cost of the stove the first year in lp savings.

Now I have an outside wood burrner. After the first 4 years it paid for itself with what I saved on lp. This is year I or 9 with it. No smoke, ash, dirt, bugs or fire hazard inside the house. And it heats this big old drafty farm house. Don't have to cut or split wood any smaller than I want it to handel it.

Down side is I burn a lot of wood. But I think that more because heating this house is trying to heat the outdoors than the wood burner. Burnt about 18 small truck loads so far this year.

Been heating my house and my camp with wood for close to thirty years. I have oil-fired furnaces/forced air systems in both but almost never use them.

Eh...wot?

I have a 24 X 24 foot work shop, trap shed with a small wood burner in it. I do let the fire die out every evening and fire it back up first thing in the morning. With the temps were getting right now it takes about 2 hours to get the shop back up to a comfortable level. Then I keep it between 65 to 70 degrees the rest of the day. I don't know if anyone else does but we have those darn stink bugs around in the fall and they like to try to over winter in the fire wood. I watch when bring in the wood but I always seem to miss seeing a few. I hate them things.

My Vermont castings defiant wood stove heats my whole house. Keeps it a comfortable 70-75 degrees. But I do have fuel oil forced air back up.

Grew up heating with wood plus coal in kitchen stove. Heat with a Heatmor boiler and love every minute. All the heat and hot water you could ask for plus save tons of money.

Heat the house with an outdoor boiler, have a woodstove in an outbuilding and 2 fireplaces in the house. Like Lawdog said, hustling firewood keeps me in shape.

Jotul stove on the fireplace hearth does most of our heating when temps are below 40F.

Been burning a wood stove most all of my adult life. Burning lots this winter, going to be busy early this Spring to get enough put up to dry in time for fall again.

I grew up with wood heat and when I bought my place I used a small wood stove in the living room as much as I could. The gas furnace would pick up the slack. After a couple years of that I installed a Heatmor outdoor woodstove. I have been running that for 23 years now. I burn a lot of wood as this old house is not very efficient but it is WAY cheaper than the gas heat would be.

PS I do run a nat gas heater in the fall and spring when I only need a little heat as it is far more efficient than the big wood stove at those times.

I run a Blaze King princess. Does great. Its in the basement and heats it plus the back half of the house above it. Im planning on a set of gas logs or a wall mountLP in the kitchen .
