In a good never picked yard, I could fill 2 1 pound coffee cans in a couple hours , years ago.
If you have a new road , sometimes they cover it up. Easy pickings.
Need a good steady rain , it used to be fun.

I learned to not trim your finger nails before catching them.
LOL You can't feel them.

Best night for me and my younger cousin was 7000--this was on a golf course.Sold night crawlers for several years.
After midnight was best time to catch those locked together.

I fairly often, catch a whole lot of nightcrawlers to go fishing with, get busy and forget about them, until I smell something terrible.

I was told fresh crawlers catch more fish than ones kept for a while. This guy showed me how a fresh picked crawler would have a more pink tail. Used to get upwards of $50 a 1000 back in the late 80s. A 5 gallon bucket was around 5000 worms.

There was a full moon a week ago. That's why the Indians called it the Worm Moon. Used to either water the yard down or wait for a decent rain then have at it.

my yard growing up was always covered in worms at night was nothing to catch 3-4 dozen for the next day where i live now lucky to catch one but probably because i live in a subdivision and they stripped all the topsoil before building and than just put sod over the dirt have also found over the years if you really need worms fast for a last minute fishing trip all you need is a 5gal bucket and sunlight dish soap

Maybe two dozen, back started to hurt and got tired, knees would not cooperate, I think I might be getting too old for this stuff but will try again tomorrow. Now I wear hip boots and use those blue neoprene gloves, times have changed. I think the worms are getting smarter too .......jk

At least ya got a few, good deal.

Maybe grab a pair of those foam knee pads b4 your next hunt. You could wear them under the hip boots. They really make a difference for me. I got mine me at Menards.

Been a very dry spring here. I plan on giving them a going over after next/first rain. Going to make up some bedding boxes today.

In 1968 -69 ..as 13 year old kids...my friend and I would sell

Our night crawlers to a guy that owned the corner store.

We got 1/2 cent each....but there was penny candy back then too
