Picked up this cool old muskrat fleshed at a show over the weekend. A "name your price" deal. Couldn't pass it up

I remember those, never used one, a teaspoon worked better.

Some models of 1930-1940 domestic fox fleshers also looked like that.

I also have one. It is only about 20 years old. Not sure what happened to the one I had before it.

Just doing what I want now.

I've got a more recent one. I liked the age on the handle, and the riveted on blade. Definitely better steel than the modern ones.

Me too. Mine came from my Dad so I would guess he bought it in the 60's. It has enough rat grease on it that it may never rust.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Nice. Any idea when or where you got it? Or brand?

I pointed this out on Tman here several years ago . . . the older scrapers had less of a curve in the blade. They were "perfect" IMO.

The newer scrapers are more curved and, IMO, do not "bite" as well.

I use an older scraper as shown below, and am always on the lookout for older scrapers which I buy and save for future junior trappers.

I have two of the newer models shown above, but for several years now I am using a 4-5 inch metal trowel wiwth a raised handle. Works slick and with fewer passes over the pelt.

I used one just like that today. I can't see how a teaspoon could do a better job.

Those scrapers are hard to stir your tea on rest breaks in between scraping hides where as a spoon adds a little flavour with the spin of the spoon.
