I picked this thing up to rebuild for a buddy that works at GE. The four dots on the left and right of the zippo logo dates it 1955-1957. Thought id share.

I think Case Knives owns Zippo now. Not positive.

Two things you learned quick if you used a Zippo lighter. Put a extra flint under that little felt pad and never ever put to much fluid in it.

You can send the lighter to Zippo and they will repair it at no charge, no matter how old it is.

I did this not too long ago with another Zippo I own. It was the smaller version , compact type.

One thing that made me just slightly leary was they ask for the entire lighter to be returned I guess to make sure it is a legit , genuine Zippo product. I was just a bit worried I might not get my original outer case returned , but it was returned. The lighter I sent back had 2 problems , failed to light and the helper spring which closes the case had lost it's snap. The gave me all new internals and it is as good as new.

There is a form on their website which you can download and print. You list the problem and send it in. I think I also had to pay a fee of about $5 for return shipping.

The Winston select one is the one I sent in for repair. Brass Marlboro one in photo for scale.

Been there , done that with too much fluid. Burns your leg bad....lol
I always keep a spare flint under the felt.

Couple tips that have worked for me. I bought non-Zippo flints online in bulk. Not quite as good as the real McCoy , sometimes ya gotta flick it a couple times to get it to light , but I got 1000 flints for about $30 which is way cheaper than buying a package of 6? locally. Buying genuine Zippo fluid online saves money over buying it locally too.

Im no expert or anything but this is how you go about dating one I guess.

Studying that mine might actually be a 1958 b/c its not flat, pat pending, and has the four dots on both sides.

But mine has both the patent and patent pending with the four dots and that combo isn't listed it doesn't look like. Kinda confusing. Late 50's anyway.

Looks like if you are after an old one to just look for the orig block letters.
