Has anyone had experience with the Chevrolet 2.7 in a Silverado?

Not a fan of little turboed engines, there is no replacement for displacement.

GUK.....it's the sound they make when they hit the end of the cable

I'd avoid any turbo engine.
1) added complications and potential issues not possible in a N/A engine
2) added cost
3) higher stresses on engine=lower engine longevity.

only reason turbos are a thing is epa gas mileage requirements

If you're only driving it till the warranty expires, go nuts. Otherwise it's a no for me.

How many have some serious experience with turbos? Daily drivers & track? You’ll only hear about the problems and negativity from guys that never really used them……. Technology has come a long way in the last 5-10 years. Nobody brags about the ones that keep rolling. If you do proper maintenance, it’ll out last the body & drivetrain.
Turbos are way under utilized and they're just starting to figure it out now. I certainly wouldn’t do much pulling with a small one,
One thing for sure, do not wait until your vehicle tells you to do an oil change. I do one every 4000 miles.

My dad has one, never had an issue with it. 150,000 miles on it so far, he doesn’t do a bunch of pulling but he’ll pull an 18 foot boat and a fish house with it. Been very reliable

For the displacement guys, do a search on GM's 6.2L V8's and let me know how the displacement thing is going when it comes to mechanical issues......they recalled 600,000 of them.....

The 2.7 is the best gas engine you can get in a GM pickup right now.

The V8's are plagued with problems.

Gotta live up to the nickname...

Right now are the important words. I'd take an '01 to '05 5.3 or 6.0 any day of the week over any of today's engines.

Key part of this post is "The 2.7 is the best gas engine you can get in a GM pickup right now."

Noway would I buy any new pickup, I'd rather spend the money on an older more basic model and go thru it to get back in good shape.
cheapest new silverado has a msrp of $37K, I can get much better much cheaper.

I have a 2022 gmc 1500 regular cab with the 2.7. I haven't had any problems with mine yet. I think they make a little less horse power than the 5.3 but also produce a little more torque. I get around 21 mpg with mine. I was a little nervous about buying it but regular cab trucks are getting harder to find and this one wasn't three states away. I would be driving another Toyota tundra if it was up to me but they quit making a regular cab truck a while ago. I have an 18 ft. boat and a b series kubota that get towed occasionally without a problem. Mine does use between a half and full quart of oil at around the 4000 mile mark. So I just change it at 4000 instead of 5000 miles now.

Drove a 2026 GMC Sierra with a turbo max for a few days. The engine whistles like a tea kettle at certain rpms and was sluggish compared to other trucks I drive. That whistle has something to do with the turbo and is considered normal. But I wouldn't want to own one. Have had good luck with the f150 Ecoboost. I think they're 200k mile engines if you stay on the oil changes.

The turbo is a fairly simple and reliable piece of equipment generally. I’d not be worried a bit. But I’d absolutely buy the Ford 3.5 eco boost over the Chevy. Fwiw.
