Like you TD, a 77F150 2WD with the 351M anchor under the hood. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2024/09/full-56418-228872-img_0715.jpeg) Got us 140km back home after the oil pressure went. Just had to top up the rad a couple times…lol. I put a 351W after that. What a nice truck to work on, even with the big block you could sit inside the engine bay if you wanted. Tough too! Literally drove through a KFC drive through with only minor scratches, T boned an old LTD at about 35mph and bent the fender, hood and bumper….exchanged info and we both drove away…lol

1986 F150 XL 2wd Red , dual gas tanks , standard cab , 8 foot bed
fuel injected 302 with the 4 speed over drive transmission
it was a highway truck
got around 22mpg with twin tanks it carried a bit over 40 gallons run that front tank dry then switch to the rear and you could go another 400 miles
make a run to the UP and back without stopping for gas.
had that 1994 to 2002
unfortunately like most trucks in WI the rust cancer got to it.
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Mine was a Chevy. Don't remember the year. I have never owned a car since. Often wondered how I ever got along without a truck prior to that?

My first truck was a 5 window '51 GMC that I pulled out of a farm field and bought for $150. The title the guy gave me was for what I think was a 2.5 ton flatbed, so I never really licensed it. Not too long after I bought it the starter went out and being flat broke most of the time I could not afford a new one, so I would park in places that would allow my girlfriend (Yes, now she is now referred to as Wonderful Wife) could get enough space, preferably downhill, so I could pop the clutch and get it running.
On a very memorable trip up north to visit (Impress) her parents, we took along our two dogs in the cab with us. They did serve a purpose by helping to shield us from the water coming up through the floorboards when we ran into a big storm. It was quite the trip...and she still stuck with me! Wish I still had the truck too!
Our next truck was a '76 Chevy 1/2 ton we bought in 1979...like a new vehicle! The only problem was we had no other vehicle at the time and had to walk to car lots to find one, but that is a whole other story....

I had that same truck in 1962 .......but a different wife, no dogs

67 mercury with straight 6 and 3 on the tree...going to have to fire it up so my kid can drive it
I always wanted to go to Canada and get a Mercury tailgate from a junkyard for my '68 Ford F-100. Most U.S. citizens have never heard of a Mercury pickup. It would have turned heads for sure here.

My first one was a 1969 GMC 1/2 ton with carpet and a special paint job. It was one of the first trucks with carpet, I got laughed at a lot because it had carpet in it. I bought it off the showroom floor. The color was red-orange, it was noticeable from a distance. It had a 350 V8 engine in it.

Don’t remember the model year but it was an international with a very small straight six and top speed of 45. Also had a 71 ford ranger for a work truck. Got that for $1 from the guy I worked with when he lost his license to DUI and couldn’t drive it. Sold it to me for a $1 with stipulation I take him to work daily and help him keep it running. We had all of our framing tools in that truck and both needed it. Spent a lot of time in junkyard looking for parts for that thing.

77 F150 reg cab 2WD campers addition. I think the campers addition is just heavier suspension and dual tanks. Clapped out 351M which I replaced with a small block Windsor. Load er up to the top of the cab with green poplar and there was still room on the shocks. Should never sold that thing.

1970 K5 blazer. Doors were so rusted out I had to put my school books in a backpack so they didn’t slide out. You could see the road thru the bottom of doors. Top came off from windshield all the way back. Piece of junk but I thought it was great. This was 1980.

My first truck was very nice. 2006 Ford Ranger 4x4 4.0 V6 5 speed manual. My grandpa had told me he would go in halfers with me on my first truck. I got my license in 2014 and started saving for my truck in 2012. I worked in the evenings at a local cabinet shop, put up fur for a local furbuyer, sold scrap metal, you name it. Found the truck not far away on Craigslist. It only had 39,000 miles on it and was in great shape. A school teacher had it. I think we paid 7500 for it and I contributed over half. This is when we brought it home. It was a great truck, wish I still had it ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/02/full-30562-247156-464678853_10233340470590524_1852405573256452348_n.jpg)

I got a hand me down 2 door hard top Impala that was gorgeous so of course I could wait to yank that 400 small block and 400 turbo tranny and stuff them under the hood of a rust bucket 74 Cheyenne Super. The thing would run and I soon found some painted white mag rims to complete the lipstick on a pig look.

First truck I ever drove was an old International cabover. had a 318 horse detroit with a 13 speed. Went literally all over this country in it. No AC and real sorry AM radio. Armstrong steering, wedge brakes and a sleeper bunk about 3 feet wide. Bunk level with the top of the dogbox. I was young and the old guys told me I was lucky. talked about keeping a piece of plywood behind their seats and a sleeping bag. Laying the plywood across the seats and the dog house.
First pickup was a 63 chevy 1/2 ton with a 4 speed and 292 straight 6. 2wd.

My first truck was a 2-wheel drive Dodge. I don't Rember the year. But the options were either a AM radio or a rear bumper. Bing a fitter I could build my own rear bumper. So, I settled for the radio.

I bought a brand new F250 with the extended cab, heavy suspension and extended bed in 1998. It was fully loaded for the time. It had a 6 disc changer and an electronic compass, that was surprisingly useful. It was way to nice for what I used it for. A buddy of mine said I should take a hammer to the side of it, so I wouldn't feel bad when I inevitably tore it up.
I almost bought a brand new F350 dually instead. I was approved and started signing the papers and then started thinking about how my house at the time was $60,000.00 and the truck I was buying was over $58,000.00. I said I needed to sleep on it and abruptly walked out of the dealership. The poor salesman called and apologised for anything he did wrong for months. He really wanted that commission.
I currently have 2 old Rangers, one of which we only drive on the farm, because the frame is rusting out, a F250 diesel and a 28' box truck.

1967 Ford F150 shotbox 4 x 4. Has 390 with 4 speed and auto hubs.
My son had it now. I don't think I've ever seen one of those in that color before. Very cool.

1964 F-100, 2x4, standard tran/on the column. I paid $375 for it in 1976, and thought that was a pile of money for an old truck. Three years later I paid $725 for a 1973 F-100. Try getting a 6 year old 1/2 ton for those prices today.........even figuring inflation!

My first truck was a 1978 Chevy Scottsdale 4x4 in Hawaiian Blue. 350, 4 speed with 4:10 or 4:11 gears. Rally wheels and dual tanks (because you needed them as mileage was around 10 mpg). Cloth seats, but no AC. Dual exhaust running glass packs.
I was 18 and it was a ‘panty pealer’
