…. They run roads through thickets for the most part ( cats will stick to the dimmer roads if a lot of coyote are around) ….my philosophy is you can catch about anything on a road that lives in a thicket… helps narrow down location on a big property and makes running the line easier

How about the available water? Cattle troths? Creek…. Someone out of California, that trapped AZ , told me cats don’t need water. That the cat can survive from moisture from eating .without water.

Free surface water is everywhere here; even in drought. In AZ, not so much the case dependent on the year and timing. I've watched cats drink free surface water, so I don't know if they need it for survival, but they dang sure utilize it. I would think that a nursing mother would most definitely need free surface water.

Usually snow in the north, canals everywhere.

Make all step downs here, hardly ever bed them much... just a twist or 2. Fox only though, coyote's are few and far between. Good sandy soil too for the most part.

For some reason the video won't play for me, is there a Rumble account I can go to and see it?
I set it to unlisted so you need a link. I can try to pm you the link. Or If you ask Savell real nice he may send it to you directly

…. What are you going after next season cowboy ?
… do you have other places lined up or are you sticking to the home place? Muskrat, otter, coyote, fox, coon, ermine, possum (always possum ) mink, maybe beaver, and if I draw tags, fisher and bobcat. Probably going to have to head north to get a cat or fisher though. I'm planning on asking around if I can trap, two of our neighbors already let me hunt on their land so they might let me trap there too. Also there is some public land a couple miles north of our place that I'm planning to trap.

… I knew that killer lol
.. but if you’ve got a tip put it in here for sure Set construction my way is as simple as it comes, its other stuff to me is far more important that could change the way some would trap if they would keep an open mind. But remember,im geared to catch masses, not individual animals,or a few. Its a different mindset, and most are not after what I'm after. And that is not a bad thing.there are many variations of set making ,most likely ,none are wrong, and most are good, and right for the individual.Im good with it all.

lol…. I got to watch it with you…. You’ve killed too many things in your life lol Have you noticed , where he makes his sets? Take a long look at the where , not the obvious easy place. Stay away from a woods line, as night hunters work them. Swales , dips and crop lines , intersections of paths and crops . Funny I never realized that until watching his videos. Looking back, I caught more fox away from the woods. LOL had I known what I realized watching his videos, was never close to the hardwoods. I would of saved hundreds of traps that were stolen along with the fur! Hated the fur boom, once certain night hunters came around.
We have met the enemy and the enemy is us!

…. Do you catch most of your critters in snares Sage ? When winter sets in and I start rotating I generally run mostly snairs. Lots of frozen critters. Early on mostly trapps. Good video.

Yes I'm not gonna lie, I am a little bit envious of having enough dirt to drive a stake and not hit rock more often than not. Test the soil with your pilot hole first before you dig your bed. If you hit rock that you can't get through, moving the pilot a few inches, or at a slight angle, will get you around it most of the time.

For some reason I was under the impression that Savell sounded like Yosemite Sam when he talked, rather than a fine Southern gentleman.
Keith Lol…. I’m in East Texas …. The yosimete sounding hands are out West
Insert profound nonsense here

Any of you northern guys have a video bedding a trap solid in peat moss? I know keeping the trap bed small helps but when using a pick ax in frozen ground they always get too big for me. I’ve pinned the trap down with large nails but what a pain. Ders got to be a better way. Try a 3" masonry chisel. More precise not quite as much shrapnel flying around
