Haven’t seen any speckles yet but we get tons of them in spring but not as many migrate through in the fall. Those eastern kingbirds are ornery and known dive bombers lol.

Nothing new here. The first duck I see is always with in two or three days of March 15th. It has warmed up 74 degrees over the low a week ago. So that is a start.

A big flock of robins showed up about two weeks ago. I have a large holly tree/bush that was loaded with berries. They spent three days and ate every single berry. Tons of berry seed crap under the tree now.

Chickadees are beginning to sing . But March is the time they always look for real estate.

Still lots of snow but warmer. Saw a Song Sparrow and have more Juncos coming in. None of those are singing yet.

Too much snow yet for robins, but I always like seeing them arrive. Really like their song. Every year the ones who camp here for the summer have their own unique tweak in their song.

I remember when some were collected and the person putting them up " un-crossed " the bills
It is one bird that can nest in any month of the year...and has the largest dispersal rate east-to-west-north to south when they move.
Banded ones in Manitoba went to NY the next year then showed up in Utah the following year nesting in each new spot

I've been seeing the large flocks of European Starlings that typically come through here in late winter/early spring.

I tell the wife I'm going to blast a bunch for the granddaughter and I to eat. We've done that a few times, they're tasty.

Nothing says spring around here more than red-winged blackbirds in the cattails.

Just before the rain and snow this weekend saw the first Sand hills in our area. Have been seeing some new arrivals at the bird feeders. I am not a good bird identifier, so I don't know what species many of them are.

We have had robins and geese all Winter, but I've been seeing more in the last week. We even had some kildeer stay here all Winter. It doesn't seem like there's been much here for them to eat. There's a bumper crop of night crawlers and I'm starting to have a lot of mole mounds pop up. I haven't heard any spring peepers yet, but it should be soon.

The buzzards officially return to Hinckley, Ohio on March 15th of every year, even though many stay in Ohio all Winter because of all the roadkill. They celebrate the buzzards return every year.

Towhees are amazing, Jack. Song sparrows are usually mixed in with them, for some reason.

I love when they visit . I especially wait to see and hear Varied Thrushes. Among the most beautiful deep woods songs I've ever heard.

My first two robins showed up late yesterday early evening, around dusk. Love to hear them sing.

Saw about 50-60 sand hill cranes in a field along the highway , next billboard was for a seed treatment to discourage the cranes from eating your seed.

Got my first Rufus hummer yesterday. He was tapping on the window and then the door glass , demanding I put out the feeder for him. I did.

Cassins Finches are here, they look like chocolate covered cherries and such a lovely song. Lots of siskins, juncos, and robins . Swallows are here too.

The Varied Thrushes dont sing near long enough. Miss them already.

Wish there are Meadowlarks here . Too woodsy for them.

Had the first grosbeak this weekend.

Put out grape jelly for the orioles, expecting them any day now. Same with the hummingbirds.

Also had a green heron come through. Cool birds.

Not sure if you can see it, but there is a black capped chickadee in that rustic old birdhouse. I didn't get it cleaned out from last year's wrens and the little buggers hauled every stick out of there before they made their own nest.

Heard robins in the pre-dawn darkness

Saw and heard a few red winged blackbirds today

And heard a killdeer as well they are always early spring birds

My hearings bad so unless the birds are close I can't hear them. Our birds have been fighting over nesting areas already and the male doves are chasing the females around. PIA chipmunks are everywhere but no groundhogs yet. Just a few robins around.

I don't know what's with the birds at my place. Early this season I had all kinds of birds hitting my sunflower feeder, mixed feeder, and suet feeder. They seemed to all have disappeared. Yesterday I saw a couple nuthatches, blue jays, one female cardinal, and a couple juncos. Last year I went through 160 pounds of sunflower seeds. This year barely 40 pounds. We still have snow on the ground. I can't figure it out. Anybody else have a similar experience?

Robins are here now. Every day I listen for my favorite song, the Varied Thrush. They only sing in March. Especially early morning and late early evening. They are rare , their song haunting , ethereal.

The feeders have been active and I have to reload frequently.
Was nice to see the variety of finches come back. House and yellows, mostly.
Have a jillion nuthatches and chickadees all winter. Cardinals and jays too.
The really cool thing was the huge flocks of snows settling on cornfields in area. When I come home from work it’s just jaw dropping how many are in fields near me. Impressive numbers.
Jim

Same thing here, watched them all day before the storm until the hawk swooped in a got dinner. They have been back but the snow is hiding their food on the ground and the trees are picked clean.

Bet they're wishing they had postponed their travels a week.

My lone Red-winged returned yesterday to our cabin feeder. He's a pretty consistent sign prolonged cold is over. Next will be the sapsuckers arriving back.
